Things became quieter. Erik was hardly around anymore. He was out getting drunk or high somewhere with the new group of friends he had made, if that is what you can call them. Chris was in California with his mom. I didn't see Luna anymore either.
It was Saturday night. Angel was spending the night with one of her friends. Cal and Emily had went out for a date night, so it was just me. Something I had grown use to. It seemed to be that away a lot lately.
It was quiet. I hate the quiet. It leaves me alone with not only myself but the emptiness around me. There was no Shawn calling my name. No Chris waiting for me on the porch to play checkers with me. No Erik playing pool downstairs with Luna. Just me.
I couldn't take the quiet anymore and decided to go out. I walked into town and around it. It was settling down for the night but not as deafening as the silence around the house. Luna texted me around 8ish. It stunned me to be honest. I hadn't heard from her in about a month and now she was texting me to come over.
I went over to her house anyway. Her mom was fumbling around in the kitchen. She was getting ready to leave or go to work. She hurried out of the door as I made my way around back. Luna was sitting on the roof. She didn't notice me. I called her name but she still didn't respond.
She was wearing her red tank top and her pajama pants with her jacket over her arms. No shoes, just bare feet. Her knees pulled to her chest.
"Luna!" I called again. She either didn't hear me or was ignoring me. I like to believe it was the latter. "Hang on! I'll come up!"
I made my way up to the stairs and onto the roof. I smiled at her but she didn't smile back. She just sat there. She wiped her eyes and her nose. I could hear her sniffling. I could tell that she had been crying.
"You okay?" I asked. She didn't answer. She just sat there staring down at the ground.
"Do you think this is it?" she asked. I didn't know what she meant at the time.
Luna got to her feet and moved towards the edge of the roof. My breath caught in my chest.
"Luna," I screamed. It all happened so fast. With one step Luna was gone before I could even stop her. I had tried to grab her but all I caught was air.
The neighbors heard me yelling for help. One of them called 911. I wanted to stay with Luna but Mrs. Cornell, Luna's next door neighbors, pulled me inside. I had already seen her. I couldn't unsee it no matter how much I wanted too.
The paramedics confirmed what I already knew. They covered her body and until the cops could do their jobs. I strongly disliked it. All those people seeing Luna like that.
One of the paramedics placed a blanket over me as I sat on the front porch. There was nobody to hold my hand. No one to tell me everything was going to be okay. No one to hug me. I have nobody left anymore. I'm the only one still here. Someone please wake me up.
