Luna began to withdraw from the family. She didn't come over anymore. I would text her or call her but she never answered me or called me back. When she did, which was very rare, she would say that she didn't want to hang out. She just wanted to stay home or she had homework. It was usually excuses.

I felt like she wanted nothing to do with me anymore. Why couldn't things go back to normal? Why couldn't everyone just be happy like we used to be? Why not?

Why couldn't things be simple? Simple and easy. Life doesn't work like that though. I know it doesn't but that doesn't stop me from dreaming.

Nothing was the way it was supposed to be. Nothing was right. Luna was barely speaking to me or anyone else. Erik was drinking and possibly doing drugs. Chris hadn't spoken to anyone since he left and went who knows where.

Everything was out of whack. I just wanted everyone to get along even if for a few minutes. A few minutes of all of us together like we used to be. It was all I wanted.

3 days after Chris left. 10:00 at night, Friday. I remember because I can never forget it.

Everything was quiet. I had put Angel to bed earlier, so I had some free time. I spent it doodling in the game room. Emily was upstairs working on making a skirt. Cal was working.

At 10:13 or thereabouts, the phone rang. Emily answered it.

"Hang on baby I'm on my way," Emily replied to the voice on the other end. She came running downstairs. "I got to go get Chris. Stay here. Lock all the doors. Don't let anyone in, you understand me."

I could hear the panic in her voice. I nodded  a yes ma'am. Emily took my face and kissed my forehead. She tells me that I am a good girl. She goes back upstairs and I follow her. She hurried into her room. She pulled on her shoes then reached into one of the drawers of her nightstand. She took Cal's gun and slide it into her jeans and hide it behind her shirt.

"Remember what I told you," Emily said grabbing her keys and running out of the door. I locked the door behind her, not knowing what on earth was going on.
