Chris's mom won custody for him but it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows. Chris harbors such anger towards her. Anger that had been gathering since he was six years old. In his eyes, she abandoned him. She left him in that awful house with that man. He blamed her for everything, everything that Ethan did.
Ethan lost his parental rights as did his stepmom. Chris even filed a restraining order against them or a protective order. I don't know what it is called. They weren't allowed to come within a certain amount of feet near him. They weren't even supposed to contact him in anyway.
Chris didn't want to live with him mother. She lived far away from us in another state on the other side of the map if you want to get specific. He wouldn't be able to visit us everyday like he does. He would only be able to call, text or write.
The day came for him to leave faster than I wanted. I didn't want Chris to leave. He was my best friend. No. He was more than that. He was my brother.
Chris had his bags packed and laid next to Cal's car. Kind of funny isn't it. He was leaving the same way he came in. He had to pack an extra bag because Emily kept giving him stuff to take with him. She had bought him new clothes and had given him a quilt she had made.
Cal loaded his stuff in the car while I merely looked on. Chris smiled at me but it wasn't his usual smile. No matter what people tell you, a smile doesn't mean you are happy. It just hides everything else you are feeling. I smiled back at him.
Chris wrapped his arms around me. Promising me that he will text me and call me whenever he gets a chance. I don't want to let go. I don't want him to get in the car and move so far away. I don't want Chris to leave, but I know he doesn't have a choice. He has to go be with his mom.
Chris squeezed me tighter before he let go and got in the car. What is happening? I'm asleep in my bed because this can't be real life, can it? I've lost Shawn and now I am losing my brother.
