Chris reverted back to his old ways. He barely spoke to anyone. At night he wouldn't go to sleep. He would pace back and forth in his bedroom. Sometimes he would just sit there watching the door, hoping no one would come through it.
He barely ate. He would tell Emily he wasn't hungry. I was really worried about him. He wasn't eating, drinking, or sleeping. He lost a lot of weight. The dark circles under his eyes grew.
Whenever someone touched him or called him, he jumped or flinched. He jumped so hard he fell in the floor one time. When he did try to sleep, he would wake up screaming. Cal and Emily would run downstairs and try to comfort him, but he wouldn't go back to sleep. He would leave the house and go walking.
Cal was the one who confronted him. He called him into his office and shut the door. I don't know what was said but after they were done talking, Chris came out crying. Cal went to his room for a few minutes. When he came back, he was fully dressed in jeans and a tshirt with his keys in his hands.
"Chris," he called motioning to the door. Chris didn't move. He just stood there. A frightened look plastered across his face.
I didn't know what was going on. Chris looked so tired. He was hurting so much but all I could do was stand there like a deer caught in headlights.
"It'll be okay kiddo," Cal whispered putting his arm around Chris and leading him to the door.
"Where are they going?" I asked Erik who was sitting on the floor next to me.
"From what I could understand somewhere he doesn't have to be afraid to sleep." Erik replied leaning back against the foot of the couch.
What on earth did that mean? He could sleep here. Cal and Emily wouldn't let anyone hurt him. Neither would any of us. They had an alarm system, not to mention Demon, our husky. Cal even had guns, which doesn't really mean anything, this is the south after all.
He didn't have to worry here but he was. He was frightened. We all knew why. Ethan had done something to him. I don't know what, but we all had a guess.
Chris checked himself into the hospital with Cal's help. Cal said he would get the help he needed. Chris never talked about his time at the hospital or what happened when he went home. He never really talked about anything when he was at his old house.
When he came home, he seemed better. Better than he was before. He was eating more and he would even sit at the table with us.
