When Bucky first met Peter, he thought that Peter would be a troublesome kid.
Now though, he's realised that the kid is really just a mini version of his best friend Steve.
He tries to hide his protectiveness but it's useless. All the others including Peter know. They don't question it whatsoever cause they all love their smol bean.
Bucky would always buy ice cream or anything from any desert store that they pass by on the way to the tower/home for Peter.
Another reason for his protectiveness is nightmares. When Bucky has his nightmares, either Steve or Peter will help due to their suoerstrength and the fact that Peter is quite therapeutic to talk to. When Peter has nightmares, particularly bad ones where he can't control his strength, Bucky and Steve have to help.
Thus, Bucky protects Peter with everything he's got.
