Chance 24: Her Secret Revealed

Bryan's POV:

I woke up from the sound of my alarm clock. I turned it off and walked straight into the shower. I wore a simple white shirt and a pair of jeans. This is enough I guess. I got my bag and my car key and went down to the first floor. I saw Mom eating her breakfast and smiled at her before kissing her cheeks.

"Bryan dear. You are up so early. Mabuti ka pa hindi gaya sa kapatid mo. By the way bryan, do you know what kind of girl Brix likes? Or does she already like someone? Is you're brother hitting on some girl?" Mom asked and ate her pie

"Girl? Lately, I don't even have time to know my brother's whereabouts." I said and smiled at her

"Well then, I'll be going Mom. I'll visit Amber first before going to school"

"About that, say hi to Amber for me. And bring her that bouquet over there." she said and pointed to the table near the door

It was a bouquet of white cotton flowers. Those were our families favorite flower, whenever we are in Korea we always have time to appreciate this flower.

I picked it up and went out the house. I entered my car and drive my way to Amber's house. Within minutes I safely arrived.

I turned off the engine and stared at their mansion. It's been days since I went here though. I went out the car and hesitated if I should go or not. I don't think I'm now allowed to visit Amber. But I really want to see her. She had been trapped in that room and I want to see her out in the open where she smiles. I sighed before pressing the doorbell.

Manang opened the gate and smiled when she saw me.

"Bryan, mabuti't nandito ka. Ang saya ng Mommy ni Amber ngayon matapos mong bumisita dito. Ay,pumasok ka na muna. Halika sa loob." sabi ni Manang at ngumiti na lang ako in return

Naglakad na kami papasok sa mansion and I caught a glimpse of a tree I never seen before. I stopped for a moment and Manang noticed it.

"Si Amber ang nagtanim niyan. Pagkatapos mong bumisita rito nang araw na iyon, lumabas siya sa kanyang kwarto sa unang pagkakataon simula nang siya'y nanatili sa silid na iyon. Hindi ko nga lang alam kung anong puno iyan. Halika na nga, hinihintay ka na nila." sabi ni Manang at naglakad na ulit papasok

I stared at the tree for few more seconds and then followed Manang inside. Holding the bouquet in my left hand and a set of folders on my right hand, I entered the mansion.

Unang nakakuha sa pansin ko ay ang bagong atmosphere sa mansion. Unlike before, the mansion looked more lively like how it was before Amber got admitted to the hospital. I sighed and walked further to the dining room. There, I saw her much livelier than usual.

"Bryan!" she shouted the moment she saw me

She hugged me tightly which resulted to the folders falling down the floor. She hugged me tightly expressing how much she misses me. I hugged her back with one arm cause I'm still holding the bouquet.

We we're still hugging when we heard a coughing sound.

"Good morning, Bryan" Tito greeted me and I smiled to him

Good morning dear" Tita Angeline followed

Amber pulled out of our embrace and started picking up the folders.

"Sorry..." she sweetly apologized

I grinned and tapped her head. She looked up and I handed her the cotton flowers Mom bought for her.

"Mom wants me to give it to you. Get well daw." I said and she giggled before holding the flowers

She smelled it and smiled sweetly which also made me smile.

"Bryan dear, come have breakfast with us." Tita invited and I shook my head

"Oh, no thank you Tita. I just dropped by to give the flowers and these." I said and showed them my notes

"Here, these are some photocopies of my notes. Parehas lang naman ang course natin. Have these to help you study for the finals." I said and she smiled

"Thank you" she said and I just nodded

I looked at Tita and Tita before saying my goodbyes.

"Well then, I'll go first." I stated but Tita interrupted me before I could take my first step

"Bryan, can we talk to you?" Tita asked and she looked at Tito

"Of course po. About po ba saan?" I asked politely

"Privately?" Tita asked and Amber's brows creased because of that

"Mom and Dad...." she called her parents with suspicion

"It's harmless, honey. We won't hurt him." Tita said and Amber instantly nodded

"Okay. I believe you. I trust you Mom and Dad. Don't hurt him!" she warned and I just chuckled because of her childish act

Tita nodded and pointed to the private office. I then followed them inside where the atmosphere became intense.

"Well, honestly,hindi namin alam kung saan magsisimula. We want you know about what is happening to Amber cause we think you should know." Tita said awkwardly

"Well if you're not comfortable about it Tito and Tita, you can just not tell me. Anyways, I'm not a family" I said and Tita frowned

"You're a family. You like Amber and we want you for her. We just think you should really know about it." Tita said and looked at her husband

"Then, I won't take a long cut. Let's be straightforward here for you still have school....." Tito said and looked at a picture frame beside him

He sighed and looked at me intensely.

"She has heart disease. Whatever happens to her that makes her heart rate goes up it triggers her heart and produces unimaginable pain to her.  She then starts to have difficulty in breathing and if unlucky, she might have a heart attack. For now, she have medications that can stop the pain and any other side effects. But, we can't certainly rely on those injections. What we are scared of is when the time comes, that her heart gives up and she.........she will certainly die." Tito said and I can't bear anything they said

I sat helplessly on the chair at ngayon tulala akong nakatitig sa malaking portrait ng family ni Amber.

"So please, Bryan. Alam namin na ikaw lang ang may kakayahang protektahan si Amber. We maybe her parents but we know that you are the only person who can help her, show her the world, teach her things and we're doing this cause we trust you." Tita said with tears forming on her eyes

"Kaya hijo, sana protektahan mo si Amber."
