Grian would admit, he was selfish.
He loved being the center of attention, of those moments where he was better at someone else at something ridiculous. He had always been like this, although never to an unhealthy extent. He made sure of that. But it made good video content and he enjoyed it, so more often than not he would throw himself into things he knew he couldn't win to try and prove himself to these people that were both his equals and his superiors.
But ever since ORIGIN, Grian had found himself being more selfish than he had ever intended to be.
While everyone else had these cool tattoos that gave them incredible powers, Grian felt like he was scrambling for a handhold in this new concept and the social changes that were coming out of it. He had been confident coming into Hermitcraft Season 6 that he would be a good fit here- charismatic, mischievous, creative, and not to mention a good builder to rival the others here- but as soon as he had been left out of the power giveaway he felt so, so... alone.
So he had taken to keeping secrets about little things. His few discoveries of techniques for building and even the TINIEST bit of redstone he has dabbled in (after help from Mumbo of course,) the elytras he had started to stockpile, and even the incredible view at basically any time of day from the top of his tower, or the aerial view at night over all the major builds around the main hermit isle. The shopping district held a chaotic, colorful charm to it that got lost in the diamonds from the ground. The glory of the Statue of Hermity from afar, flying at eye height instead of being looked down on by the statue. The eerie glow of Iskall's lab underneath the ice, with the lights peeking through in a faded web.
When Grian had shared some of these secrets with the ConVex, he knew they didn't realize how much of a secret he had been telling them. He hadn't even told Mumbo and Iskall about the elytras or the flying, and they were his closest friends by far... at least he thought. Lately, they had been doing so much with their powers Grian had been hanging out with Cub and Scar instead, and had felt more welcome with the two outcasts than he had been with the other Architechs when they were actually together.
Grian squeezed his fingers into a fist. At the start of the season he had been rather dainty and skinny, but after a lot of grinding and hard labor, his hands had grown tougher and he had built some muscles up. Meanwhile, he had noticed some of the other hermits having the opposite, especially the ones he knew used their powers a lot in their daily activities.
Consequences. Cause and effect of this... mess. Everything is a mess right now, if you're keen enough to look.
Xisuma's admin powers- easily the most powerful of all the ORIGIN tattoos- was still under the control of his alter ego. Cub and Scar were more or less shunned, despite having been on good terms with everyone for the past two seasons. Doc and Ren were slowly taking over the economy with their stock exchange and Grian doubted that the Architechs' talk of "Sahara" would really go through. People would sometimes go silent for days at a time, turning off all notifications and being focused on just one thing, which almost always had to do with experimenting with their own power. And all Grian could do was watch as the great community he had been hoping to join fell apart around them, and no one seemed to notice.
The wind gusted through his hair. He was on top of one of his spires again, sitting on the edge and watching the world go by as he lost himself in worried thought.
"Storm's brewing," he murmured carelessly to himself as he noticed the gathering grey clouds.
I should head down.
Grian didn't move a muscle. The spell of sitting so perfectly still up here, his only movement was his chest expanding from breathing, seemed like a crime to break.
