A few hours later, [Y/N] walked into the jonin stand-by station. She was in full uniform and had stopped by to wait for her father to send for her to receive her mission assignment. Asuma had already been waiting there when she came in and he tensed up as soon as she did. Kakashi and Kurenai were also sitting there with him, both of whom noticed the tension that filled the air when she came in. [Y/N] rolled her eyes and made her way past her brother. He furrowed his eyebrows as she walked by, grunting and settling deeper into the bench, lighting a new cigarette.

Kurenai and Kakashi exchanged wary glances. It hadn't been this tense between them for a while. Sure, they still weren't on the best of terms, but they'd at least been able to be in the same room together, even exchange a few words here and there. This was a drastic set back and it was starting to get really awkward. Finally, Kurenai broke the silence in the room. "So... is everything okay?"

Asuma laughed humorlessly, flicking his cigarette. "Yeah, sure. Everything is fine." He took a drag from the cigarette and blew the smoke up into the air. "She's just pissed because I caught her sleeping with Genma this morning."

Kurenai's eyes widened and Kakashi choked on air; meanwhile, [Y/N] turned and flung a shuriken at her brother. "Asuma! Would you shut the hell up? Mind your own business!"

The shuriken lodged itself in the wall behind Asuma's head, barely missing him (as she meant to—she would never really hit him, no matter how pissed she is). Everyone sat in silence for a moment, unsure of how to react. [Y/N] and Asuma glared at each other. Kurenai stared at the ground. Kakashi was fuming behind his mask, though he made sure not to let it show. She's sleeping with Genma? Seriously?

Finally, Kurenai cleared her throat. "Okay you two. This really has got to stop."

The siblings looked at her incredulously. Asuma shook his head and took another long drag on his cigarette and [Y/N] crossed her arms. Kurenai looked between them. "I mean it. Today. Come on, Kakashi, let's give them a moment."

"She just launched a shuriken at his head. Should we really leave them alone?" Kakashi said, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. Mostly, he didn't care to leave them alone, but he wanted a reason to stay and hear this conversation.

Kurenai sighed. "Well, you've got a point... Okay, you two are just gonna have to work this out with us here."

They all sat in an awkward silence for a while longer. Asuma had finished his cigarette and lit another. [Y/N] made her way to sit down on a bench that she deemed still far enough from her brother, but close enough she could hear them if they spoke. Finally, after a long drag on his cigarette, Asuma spoke. "So... how long have you two been sleeping together?"

"Asuma! Did you seriously just ask that?"

"I just wanna know how this happened!"

[Y/N] rubbed her eyes. "Uh, fine. Okay. When you got me reassigned from ANBU, I was pissed at your stupid ass. So I went to the bar and met up with some friends. We all got drunk and... one thing led to another and I slept with Genma. It just kind of... became a thing."

"That was like five months ago... You're telling me that you and Genma have been hooking up for five months?"

"You asked! If you don't want the answers, then obviously don't ask the damn questions, dumbass." [Y/N] said, throwing her hands up in exasperation. Asuma shook his head at his sister and couldn't help but laughing at the situation. [Y/N] tilted her head. "What? What're you laughing at?"

He couldn't help but to laugh a little harder at her confused face. "You are just so sassy, [Y/N]. I have spent so much time being worried that you can't take care of yourself, but you are just so damn mean. Of course no one is going to mess with you. And I was so pissed because I thought Genma took advantage of you. But you went to him! And apparently it was my fault! You can't make this stuff up!"

[Y/N] rolled her eyes but couldn't help but to start laughing herself. Asuma had always had a loud, infectious laugh and [Y/N] couldn't ever hear it and not join. So the two sat there laughing at one another while Kurenai and Kakashi sat and watched in amusement and a little disbelief at the entire situation.

Finally when they died down, Asuma looked at his sister. They were both wiping tears from their faces, breathing hard and holding their sides. He shook his head again, smiling at her. "You have just really grown up, you know? I'm really sorry that I wasn't around for it. I know I was stupid. But I'm here now, [Y/N], if you can forgive me."

She looked back at her brother, pouting her lips. "Yeah, yeah, just don't get mushy on me."

Asuma held his arms open and [Y/N] got up to sit with her brother, hugging him tightly. She hadn't realized how much she'd missed him and how happy she was to have him back until now. He wrapped his arms around her tightly and kissed the top of her head. They sat like that for a while before Asuma cleared his throat. "For real though, you're gonna stop sleeping with Genma now, right?"

"Asuma, don't ruin the moment."
