"So, you're really okay with them dating?" Kakashi asked, lazily reading his book and casually glancing at Asuma every so often. They were both sitting at the bar, each hoping to drink enough to forget the sight of Genma and [Y/N] from this morning.
Personally, Kakashi had been in a terrible mood since seeing Genma's fingers intertwined with [Y/N]'s. Sure, Kakashi had had a thing for her for years now and still hadn't done anything about it. And sure, he told himself time after time that he never would, but that didn't mean he wanted someone else to move in and make a move on her—which of course only made him feel worse. Just because he couldn't bring himself to do anything about his feelings doesn't mean that she should have to miss out on dating whomsoever she pleased. Jealousy really is a terrible thing.
Asuma sighed. "No, not really. But I didn't have the heart to tear her down for it. I've missed her Kakashi and I want her to be happy. At least now I know they're actually trying to make some kind of relationship work and they aren't just going to be doing it all the time."
Kotetsu laughed from beside them, getting another round of drinks for his table. "They're probably still going to be doing it all the time."
His laughter stopped when Asuma turned and glared at him, eyes full of irritation. "Thanks man."
Kotetsu rubbed the back of his head. "I should get back with these drinks." And with that, he took off across the room. Asuma leaned forward and rubbed his eyes and then watched as Kakashi took a drink of his beer. His seventh beer.
"It's not like you to be drinking so much. Anything on your mind?"
"Hm? Oh, not really. Nothing more than usual."
Asuma huffed and took a drink of his own beer. Across the room, his sister sat in a booth with her back propped against Genma's chest, the two of them laughing with some of their other friends. He rolled his eyes and turned his head, noticing Kurenai sitting with Anko across the bar. He felt his heart flutter slightly at the sight of her beautiful crimson eyes. Asuma turned to Kakashi. "Say, do you ever think about settling down?"
That's when he seen it. Kakashi's eye flicked up, looking directly across the room at [Y/N]. His hopeful gaze lingered on her for just a moment before looking back down and dropping his shoulders. Asuma exhaled sharply through his nose, opened his mouth to speak and then closed it again, realizing he had nothing to say... at least, nothing nice to say. Instead he just nodded, stood, and left Kakashi sitting alone. How was it that apparently every man he knew was all of a sudden falling for his sister?
"So, you two really are together? Like actually together?" Kotetsu asked as he returned from the bar getting drinks. He sat down next to Izumo in the booth across from the new couple and immediately threw back a shot. Genma sat with his back against the wall, one arm resting on the table and the other over the back of his own booth. [Y/N] sat beside him, leaning against his chest, watching as Kotetsu threw the shot back. She laughed when he shook his head as means to try and relieve the burn before the dark haired man smiled. "So? Really?"
Genma shook his head and grinned. "Yeah, really. She's off the market." He took his arm from the back of the booth to rest around [Y/N]'s shoulders and pull her in closer. His lips gently brushed the back of her head with a small kiss. Kotetsu and Izumo exchanged glances and high fived.
"What was that?" Genma asked, looking between his friends, who were giggling like school girls to one another.
"We had a running bet to see how long it would take for you two to get together." Izumo laughed. He'd already had plenty to drink himself that night and was behaving much sillier than usual.
"A bet?" [Y/N] repeated, raising an eyebrow at the two across from her.
"Yeah! Ever since we seen you two sneak off like forever ago," Kotetsu hiccuped, "we made a bet to see how long it would take before you two started dating."
"Wait, when we snuck off?"
"Yeah, right after that fight with your dad and you got out of ANBU, remember?"
"You two seen us?" Genma asked, incredulous.
"You two really don't remember that night all that well do you?" Izumo laughed again. "We totally watched you all make out in the hallway and we seen you duck out a little after—"
"I thought it was going to be a one night stand." Kotetsu cut in, taking yet another shot.
Izumo glared at him for a moment before rolling his eyes. "I figured it would eventually turn into something. The whole friends having sex thing either ends up with the people together or not speaking. And it's been months! You two have been closer than ever so I just assumed it was coming."
"Awesome." [Y/N] said, nodding her head once and reaching to take the shot Izumo was holding out of his hands. She threw it back and then winked at him. "I think you two have had enough to drink."
"Aww, [Y/N]! The party's just getting started!" Kotetsu whined. He reached over the table and took the entire sake bottle away from her and gulped the last bit of it down. [Y/N] smirked. "You know, you finished it off so I guess our tab's on you tonight."
Kotetsu's eyes widened and he went into a coughing fit as [Y/N] and Genma started laughing and stood quickly, rushing to get out of the restaurant before he could react. They laughed as they practically ran for the door, hand in hand.
Asuma, now sitting next to Kurenai, looked up upon hearing the commotion at their table. The smile on his sister's face was so genuine and her laughter was music to his hears after not hearing it for so long. He watched as [Y/N] tugged Genma out of the door before turning and hugging him in the street. Genma smiled and wrapped his arms around her and kissed the top of her head. She looked up at him and they shared a kiss before Genma pointed at something down the street, asked her something, and [Y/N] nodded back. The two turned, Genma's arm around her shoulders, and started walking up the street. Asuma was dumbfounded at the smile that he couldn't stop from spreading across his face. It seemed as though they really did like one another...
Kakashi had also watched the entire thing. He couldn't help the pang of jealousy that flooded through his veins. Genma was living the very life he had imagined for the last few years. Holding her, kissing her, making love to her... Kakashi didn't realize he'd gripped his beer bottle too hard until it broke in his hand, cutting his skin here and there. He ignored the pain, throwing down some money on the counter for his drinks (and a little extra for the mess), and made his way out of the bar too. He stepped into the cool night air and took a deep breath. Then he turned and headed home. There's nothing a like a little peace and quiet to clear your head.
