It was three weeks before Kakashi began to act like himself again. After Naruto left the village with Jiraiya to train and Tsunade took Sakura under her wing, Kakashi declined a new set of students. He just needed time to completely recover.

[Y/N] knew deep down he was still upset, still hurting, but he couldn't dwell on it forever. He had to get up and mend. He had to prepare for the next time he and his team would see Sasuke. For when he could be there in time. Instead of sulking, he focused on bettering himself. Training, learning new jutsu, controlling his sharingan, becoming the best he could be.

Of course, that included being the best he could be in his relationship. He made sure to put forth more time into it, working on it with [Y/N]. Despite the fact that they were already a few months in, it was still a fairly new concept to him.

Sure, he had been on dates before (rather awkward events, in his opinion) and hell, he had even had sex before (an even more awkward event, as he and Anko just did not mesh well). But with [Y/N], it all felt natural—like she was a part of him that had been missing—but the idea of a long term relationship was still foreign to him. He wanted to put in more time for her, especially since their first few months together were basically spent apart, what with his time in the hospital and missions and whatnot.

But as more time passed, they only grew closer. He wanted to know as much about her as he could and she him. Of course, they maintained their privacy, not letting anyone else in on their relationship status (even Asuma and Kurenai sometimes wondered if they were still dating or not). But she was the one good thing that he really needed in his life.

Kakashi couldn't help but to think so now as he looked at her. They had each just returned to the village from separate missions. He had already checked in with Tsunade and met her on his way out. As she passed by, he couldn't help the smile that creeped up on him, turning his cheeks red. She couldn't help returning the same smile, Asuma rolling his eyes as he followed her in.

Kakashi waited outside of the building for her to come out. He didn't mind waiting, he hadn't seen her in a few days. But the missions were easy going these days, with more and more shinobi advancing through the ranks. They weren't stretched as thin as they were a few years ago. He would have the next few days off.

[Y/N] and Asuma came back out, talking about how thankful they were for the next few days off too. Kakashi cleared his throat, making them both turn and look at him. She grinned and walked over to him, giving him a small hug. He pulled her against him, holding her tightly as she leaned up to kiss him through his mask. Asuma groaned. "Get a room you two!"

They both started laughing and [Y/N] turned to face her brother. "Hmm, we just might." She winked and Asuma groaned again, bidding them both goodnight before hightailing it out of there. They started walking in the opposite direction, basking in one another's presence and enjoying the comfortable silence between them. He finally let out a small hum before turning to look at her. "Say, do you know what today is?"

"It's Thursday."

"True. But it's also another important day."

"Your birthday?" She pretended to think about it.

"Not for another month."

"My birthday?" She asked, eyes wide and full of mischief.

"Are you just playing with me?"

[Y/N] laughed, linking her arm with Kakashi's. "Of course I know what today is. We've been together for two years and six months today."

"So you were playing with me then."

She laughed and nodded her head. "Yep. And you know, I'd love to celebrate... Maybe we could do something together, something... private?"

Kakashi smiled. "Ah, you know that is tempting. I love a good game of checkers."

[Y/N] stopped and deadpanned. "What?"

"Not what you meant? Shogi then?"

"Are... are you just playing me now?"

He grinned behind his mask. "Of course I know what you meant."

"You think you're so funny, don't you?"

"A little."

"Whatever Kakashi." She rolled her eyes but smiled nonetheless. "So, your place or mine tonight?"

Kakashi didn't answer for a minute. He seemed to be thinking really hard about something before he stopped walking and turned to face her. She stopped abruptly and looked up at him. "What? You don't wanna?"

"No, I do, I just... I've been thinking. You know, we've been together for over two years now, right? And we see each other when we can, but sometimes it can be difficult. I hate when we have to go back and forth to pick where to stay for the night. And sometimes we still end up sleeping alone at our own apartments because we ran out of clean clothes or something."

[Y/N] started at him intently. "Okay... so I'll pack extra tonight?"

Kakashi laughed and shook his head, taking both of her hands in his. "What I'm trying to say is, well, I love you, [Y/N]. I like waking up to you in the mornings and I like falling asleep with you right beside me. I want it to be that way every day, without the back and forth. So," he took a deep breath, "Why don't you move in with me?"

[Y/N]'s eyes went wide and her jaw went slack. She searched his face for any signs of hesitancy and found none. A slow grin spread across her face as she stared up at her boyfriend.

"Really? You mean it? You want me to move in with you?"

"Well, yeah. I wouldn't have asked if I didn't want you to."

"Kakashi!" She squealed and jumped up to hug him. He caught her but in the excitement, he lost his footing and fell back to the ground, holding her tight. When they hit, they both groaned out at the impact before bursting into laughter. "So I guess that's a yes?"

"That's a definite yes!"

"Well, then we'd better get going quick."

"Huh?"

"Well, now we have two things to celebrate tonight and that could take a while, if you know what I mean."

"...you really do think you're just so funny, huh?"
