The nurse had just hung the new medication for Kakashi's IV when [Y/N] knocked at the door and came in. Kakashi couldn't help but to smile at her. Despite everything, he had missed her something terrible the last few days. The nurse finished doing what she needed before leaving the room.

[Y/N] smiled and thanked the nurse before she made her way across the room. "Kakashi... are you okay? Do you need anything?"

"No, I'm fine. Come sit with me."

She did as she was told, sitting down in the chair next to Kakashi's bed. He turned his head to look at her but made no move to sit up—not that he could even if he wanted to. He stared at her, studying her face. She kept her head down, looking at her hands in her lap. Still, she looked as beautiful as always, but there was something different now. There was a look laced in features that he'd never seen before. It was foreign to him and he had trouble placing it.

She finally raised her eyes to look at him and his jaw went slack upon seeing the tears in her eyes. That's when it hit him. It was guilt laced in her features. Kakashi took a deep breath before starting the conversation he'd been dreading.

"What is it, [Y/N]?"

She sighed before sitting up straight and looking at her boyfriend head on. There was no sense in dragging this on.

"Genma kissed me."

"That... I know."

"You know?"

"I know that you've apparently rejoined ANBU. I know that you were in the Sand Village. And yes, I know that Genma kissed you."

[Y/N] sat back in her chair and huffed. She wasn't surprised in the least. Of course Kakashi would already know. There was no hiding anything from him.

"Tenzo told you then?"

"It's Yamato now, actually." Kakashi said, sarcastically quoting his friend.

"Yamato? How ridiculous." She said, rolling her eyes and earning a half-smile from Kakashi. The two then sat in silence, her waiting for him to drill her with a hundred questions, him waiting for her to just offer up the answers without the formality of him asking.

Finally, they both sighed. Kakashi turned back to stare at the ceiling and she studied the floor. Neither spoke for what seemed like hours. [Y/N] didn't know what he was thinking. Was he angry? Did he blame her? What did this mean for them? Hell, she didn't even know if she wanted his answer.

"What do you want, [Y/N]?"

"What?" She jerked her eyes up to see that he had already been staring at her again.

"Do you want me? Or him?"

"Kakashi... I... I don't know."

"Oh." Then he turned to stare at the ceiling again.

"No, no. Please, Kakashi. Don't clam up on me. I need you right now." She stood abruptly from her chair and leaned over Kakashi's bed, hugging him as gently as she could as a few tears escaped her eyes.

Kakashi was startled but rested his cheek on top of her head anyway. "I'm not. You're still my girlfriend after all, right? I only want to see you happy, [Y/N]."

She nodded and rested there for a while, listening to Kakashi's steady heartbeat. Finally, he cleared his throat. "Look, why don't we hold off on you moving in just yet, okay? And, I'm not saying that we should break up permanently, but let's take the week a part, okay? Just take a break from it all. You can take the time to think things through. I'm not mad at you—I'm not exactly thrilled that all of this is happening, but I'm not mad, okay? Just go and think things through. I'll be here for the next week. When I'm out, we'll go to lunch and talk about things."

[Y/N] nodded. The tone of his voice told her that he'd made up his mind. This is what he thought was best and he wouldn't have it any other way now. She might as well just listen. She leaned up and pecked Kakashi's covered lips before pulling away from him.

She turned and made her way to the door. She opened it and paused in the doorway. "Kakashi... for what it's worth, I love you."

And then she was gone again, leaving him alone with his thoughts.
