When they made it back to the village, Asuma went on to the Hokage's meeting for the squad leaders. As a squad leader, it was mandatory for him. Plus, he needed to find out what was going on with the power.

[Y/N] stayed at the main gate with Izumo and Kotetsu. She was a stand-in squad leader, so she neglected to attend the meeting. Instead, she helped close the main gates and quarantine the village off. Once the gate was closed, she stood atop the wall just above the gate with some other ninja.

"Did you see that?" Kotetsu asked openly, pointing to the horizon. It was difficult to see in the dark, but [Y/N] made out four approaching figures. She watched as the security units engaged them and then gasped in horror when the newcomers killed them. A fight ensued and more and more members of the Leaf village were being killed off.

She ran toward the commanding officer, ready to fight him if it meant calling off the attacks. Her friends and comrades were out there dying, trying to follow useless orders to attack. She'd just made it when Genma landed on the wall in front of her. He put his arm out to stop her, giving her a side glance. Then he turned and asked for a status report.

The commanding officer barely started before Genma looked out over the wall and realized what was going on. "Idiot! Don't order them to approach head on!"

[Y/N]'s breathing was speeding up and anger radiated off of her in waves. She'd never heard Genma speak so hatefully, but those were his friends too and she knew he was pissed off as well. He growled and faced the commanding officer again, who had a nervous sweat building up on his forehead. Genma rolled his eyes. "I'll take over from here."

Genma turned back and faced the remaining security units. "Engage them only from a distance!"

[Y/N] started to get closer to the edge of the wall before Genma put his hand on her shoulder. "Stay out of the way. We'll need you to assist the medical corps if things get much worse. You can't get hurt."

"I'm fine, Genma. I can't stand back and do nothing." She snapped back, the seriousness of the situation weighing on her heart. Her home was under attack! Like hell she was going to stay back.

"Fine. At least wait until the smoke clears and we can see what's going on." He grumbled back. As the smoke started to dissipate, [Y/N] and her comrades watched as one of the four enemy figures started weaving hand signs. When she finished, a tower started rising in front of them, blocking off the main gate. Others rose from all around the village, blocking off all of the village entrances.

A sort of shield formed from the towers and Genma glared at it. [Y/N] watched as he spit his senbon out toward the shield. The senbon flew straight toward the shield before incinerating. Genma gasped and his eyes widened. "A defense barrier."

Izumo gripped the railing harder. "A defense barrier?"

Kotetsu furrowed his eyebrows together. "What? That doesn't make any sense."

"Guys, it's not going to be used for defense." [Y/N] said, turning to her friends. "It's not to keep them out but—"

Kotetsu slammed his fist on the railing, interrupting her. "To keep us in!"

Genma, who had now placed another senbon in his mouth, confirmed their thoughts. "That's right. For some reason they want that barrier to keep us trapped here in the village."

Before anyone could speak again, there was a bright light behind them. [Y/N] immediately turned and jumped over the railing to investigate. When Kotetsu and Izumo followed, Genma decided he had no choice but to go too.

He landed in front of the squads lined up at the gate, standing next to [Y/N]. Kotetsu grumbled. "Now what do they have in mind?"

[Y/N] braced herself as one of the invading men started speaking. She looked at Genma from the corner of her eye, watching as his expression changed from one of confusion to one of anger as the man spoke, rambling on about the Hokage's lack of purpose.

Genma listened as Izumo and Kotetsu replied back to the enemy, realizing they were here to stand and fight. This whole group was here, [Y/N] was here. He would fight back too. All they had to do was hold their ground and wait for reinforcements...

One of the men on the enemy's side went on offense, using an earth style jutsu to send the ground at them like a rock slide toward Genma and his group. "Get back!" He yelled, grabbing [Y/N]'s arm and pulling her with him. When they all recovered and stood back up, [Y/N] watched in horror as bodies started coming up from the ground.

They didn't look normal. They were... dead?! What the hell?!

[Y/N] drew her kunai, ready for the fight.
