"She's still in there?"
"The door is locked."
"Well get it open!"
"But ma'am..."
"Get her out!"
"We'll hit her with the door."
"She's probably just tired."
"What if she's passed out?"
"We need to check on her."
"She probably wants to be alone."
[Y/N] blinked slowly, trying to make herself reacquainted with her surroundings. She was laying on the bathroom floor, using her clothes as a makeshift pillow. She must've fallen asleep on the floor. She was tired enough, it wasn't a far-fetched idea... Her head was pounding and the voices on the other side of the door weren't helping.
She laid there on the cold floor anyway, not saying a word. She was numb and she didn't care to move. Of the voices she could make out, she knew one was Tsunade. The others... Genma was still here. Is that... Oh, that's Shikaku. He must've come to check on her too. And Kakashi... he's back already? Is that Izumo and Kotetsu here now too? Wow, full house.
[Y/N] rolled onto her back and stared at the ceiling. She'd never felt this numb and empty before. Sure, she'd been sad... She was sad when she lost Itachi. She was sad when Hayate died. She was sad when her father died. But this... This was a whole new level of sad. It had never hurt like this before.
Asuma was really gone.
Sure, they'd had their ups and downs, but this was her brother. He'd helped raise her after their mother passed away. He helped her discover her chakra nature. He walked her to the academy every morning and trained with her every night. He cheered the loudest at her academy graduation. He celebrated her promotion from genin to chunin, and then to jonin with her.
He was the only person to hold her hair back when she got drunk the first time, making fun of her the whole time. He punched out her first boyfriend when he broke her heart. He spent the whole night playing shogi with her and eating ice cream to make her forget about that jerk. He backed her up when their father was too strict on her. He was the one that made threats to Genma and Kakashi over her. He comforted her when she was down and laughed with her when she was up.
At the end of the day, no one had her back like Asuma did.
[Y/N] reached up and held the necklace around her neck. It was the same one Asuma had given her on her twentieth birthday. She hardly ever took it off, even for missions.
"Topaz is supposed to bring you strength and peace. I hope maybe it can stand for our relationship."
That's what he'd said when he gave it to her. She had just started to get close with him again when he told her that. She had hugged him and promised that she would keep him close in her life again. She'd certainly held up her end of the bargain.
Strength and peace, huh, Asuma? That's what I really need right now, so if you're listening from up above somewhere, I still need you.
She sighed and let go of the necklace, stretching her arms out on either side of her. She listened as the voices on the other side of the door continued to speak, trying to figure out the best way to go about the situation. She thought about getting up and just opening the door for them, but she didn't care enough to stand up.
"We should just leave her alone for now."
"No, we need to get her out of there. It's been almost twenty-four hours!"
"She doesn't want to be bothered."
"I don't care. She was bleeding pretty bad when she got back. I need to make sure that her stitches haven't popped open. What if she's bleeding out on the floor?"
"I doubt that's what's happening."
"Doubt is not being sure, Shikaku! I want that door open!"
Suddenly, [Y/N] heard a knock from outside the hospital room. There were some footsteps shuffling around before she heard Izumo speak. "Lady Hokage. There's a nurse here to see you. She says it's something about [Y/N]'s blood work."
"Very well. Someone get this door open and it had better happen before I get back."
She heard Tsunade's heels clacking on the tile floor, fading until she was out of the room. Her blood work, huh? Probably that poison. Itachi said it had been made wrong. It probably just showed up as something unusual in her blood. It had been a few days since she'd accidentally eaten it, so she was ill concerned. If she were going to die, she'd already be buried next to her brother.
[Y/N] silenced her thoughts when Tsunade's heels came clicking back into the room. "Well, is it open?"
"Yes ma'am, we got it unlocked."
"Good. Kakashi, Genma, a word please."
[Y/N] couldn't make anything else out. She didn't care to try. It didn't matter. She didn't care what was going on in the rest of the world. She didn't care to know what day it was or how much time passed. For all she cared, she could spend the rest of her life in this floor. Or, she could've until someone opened the door and the rest of the world came spilling in.
She didn't look up at them. She didn't even flinch. She just closed her eyes and ignored them, keeping her position on the floor. She didn't even move when she heard feet shuffling in closer to her. She didn't move when those people laid down on either side of her and each of them held one of her hands. She just laid there, letting it all happen and refusing to speak.
"[Y/N]."
It was Genma laying to her left. His voice was rough, laced with worry and sadness. If she hadn't already broken, his voice would've done it. But it was too late. She was already gone.
"This isn't healthy, sweetheart."
She didn't care. She had no appetite. She couldn't swallow anyway. Her throat was scratchy and dry. She didn't even want water at that point. She didn't care if she wasted away right there.
"You have to get up."
Kakashi spoke from her right. He sounded just as sad and broken as Genma. But no, she doesn't have to get up. She can lay right there on the cold tile floor. There's not one force in the world that said she had to get up.
"For me?"
Not even for you, Genma.
"What about for me?"
Not even for you either, Kakashi.
"For the baby?"
Not even for... [Y/N] opened her eyes and stared at the ceiling, the confusion and irritation evident in her reddened, puffy eyes. She furrowed her eyebrows. What the hell were they talking about?
"You heard right. You're pregnant, [Y/N]."
...
...
...
...
Now. Now there was a force. Just one in the whole world, right inside of her.
And it made her get up.
