You sat in the passenger seat of the car, occasionally looking over at Taylor as she stared ahead at the road.
"Where are we going exactly?"
She looked at you and smiled, grabbing your left hand and lacing it with her right one.
"Just wait a bit longer, darling. Be patient. We're almost there."
You groaned and Taylor laughed as she continued to drive. The radio was at a low volume but you could faintly hear yours and Taylor's song playing. You giggled and turned it up.
"What a coincidence that it's playing on our anniversary." Taylor smirked and you raised your eyebrow at her, figuring that she had something planned but you couldn't tell what.
You simply nodded and smiled as Taylor started to sing along with the radio and soon enough you did too.
Taylor stopped the car and kissed your cheek before getting out and walking to your side. She opened the door and closed it behind you as you stepped out.
"Uh, Taylor? What are we doing here? It's super dark and I'm a little nervous."
Taylor laughed and grabbed your hand.
"Don't be. I'm here with you and you know I'd never let anything happen to you."
You went with it and kept a tight grip on her hands until you were met with the sight of fairy lights. You let go of her hand and stepped closer, realizing then that there all the trees around that little area were decorated with them.
There was a little picnic basket on the ground along with Taylor's guitar case. You jumped when her arms went around your waist but relaxed immediately, sighing at how content you felt.
"Taylor this is gorgeous."
She smiled and kissed your shoulder, gently sitting you down on the little blanket on the ground before she sat down next to you.
"I know this seems a little cheesy but I know how much you've always wanted to do something like this. What better time to do it than on our anniversary?"
She kissed your cheek before opening the picnic basket and pulling out some foods that she had made special for you earlier that day.
You dug into it right away, Taylor giggling and mumbling how adorable you are before she started to eat too.
Once you finished eating you laid back on the blanket and stared up at the stars in the sky. You didn't see many of them in the city so you always enjoyed watching them when you had the chance.
"I really love you. You know that right?" You heard Taylor say.
You tilted your head back to look at her, closing your eyes when she kissed your temple.
"Of course, I do. You know I love you just as much." She nodded and parted her lips, ready to say something else, but she was a little nervous to do so. She started picking at the polish on her nails and you sat up quickly, grabbing her hand and giving it a light squeeze.
"Hey, what's wrong?"
She sighed and looked at you, shaking her head and squeezing your hand. "Nothing. I've just been thinking a lot, that's all."
You chuckled nervously, feeling curious as to what was on her mind. "Thinking about what?"
She looked at you and brushed her fingers along your cheek. "You. Us. What our future might look like together. I just realized a few days ago that we've spent two years together. I never thought I'd get that with someone."
She paused and looked back at you. "But I have that with you and I can't tell you how thankful I am for you. I really love you y/n."
She pulled away and grabbed something from the picnic basket. You saw it was a tiny black box before she opened it and you were met with a beautiful ring.
Your vision started to blur as tears formed in your eyes. "Taylor-"
"I don't wanna go another day without asking you this. I wanted to do this way sooner but I've wimped out, until now. Marry me?"
You gasped, trying to say yes but the words wouldn't come out so you just threw your arms around her instead.
"That's a yes, right?"
You both laughed and you nodded, pulling away as Taylor slid the ring on your finger.
"Of course it is, silly girl."
The night didn't end there. She performed your song on her guitar for you. It sounded more beautiful than it normally did, maybe because things were so different now but in the best way possible.
You were so excited about this new chapter in your life. You felt like the luckiest girl in the world.
