Beth took out her machete and held it firmly in her hand. The approaching footsteps came and stopped by the body we had left behind.
"Search the rooms. They couldn't have gotten far," one of the soldiers said.
Beth and I stayed crouched until we heard the footsteps coming our way. I pulled out my gun and was about to click it when Beth stopped me.
"We do this quietly," she whispered.
I nodded. The soldier came in and before I knew it, he was on the ground. Beth had managed to take him out quicker than I had ever seen her do before. She took the rifle he had come in with and placed it over her shoulder.
"Let's find the other one," she said.
"I'm right behind you," I said.
"Collins! Report!" the soldier called from across the hall.
That was easier than we had thought.
"Collins," he said again.
"You still want to do this quietly?" I asked Beth.
She thought for a second.
"Screw it," she said.
She took the rifle, cocked it and fired down the hall.
"They're here! Take them out!" someone ordered.
"Well I could have done that," I said.
"Yeah but I just did it so much better. Let's move!" she said.
We both headed deeper down the hallway and took down every single soldier that we came across. We ducked for cover whenever a soldier fired at us. They had sent a lot of reinforcements.
"The exit is that way. We just have to make it over there and head to the top floor," I said.
"Should be easy enough," she said.
She moved from behind the table we were currently conversing by but was met with a few shots.
"You okay?" I quickly asked.
"Yeah. I didn't get a look to see how many there are though," she said.
"Come on out!" the soldier ordered.
Beth held the rifle firmly in her hands and looked over the table and fired. We took turns doing the same until we couldn't hear anything else.
"I'll check," I said.
I carefully peeked over the table and didn't see anyone.
"I think we took care of all of them," I said.
"Good. Let's get moving," she said.
We took the exit and made our way through the door that led to another hallway that had a tarp all around it.
"We'll take the stairs," I said.
"Right. This way," she said.
As we got further down the hall, I heard a door open and fired at the soldier that came out.
"Well, damn. Talk about never missing a beat," she said.
We went out the door and made sure to block it with a crate nearby.
"The top floor. Let's start going up," she said.
We climbed the staircase in a hurry until we reached the top.
"He said the far end?" Beth asked.
"Yeah. It should be this way," I said.
We walked to the left and looked out the window. We could see the shadows of more soldiers lining up in an attempt to take us out.
