16: Responsibilities

Cyrus drove to Syn's law firm immediately. He bumped into Cindy, luckily. Cindy was surprised to see Cyrus after a whole week without Synthia here in the Philippines.

"Sir Cyrus, napadaan po kayo?" She asked.

"S-si Synthia?" He panted as he replied with a question.

Cindy was hesitant to answer his question. She was torn between Syn's words and Cyrus' presence. In the end, Cindy heaved a sigh.

"Umuwi po si Attorney sa kanila. Kakamatay lang po ng nanay niya eh" Cindy said. Of course she knew about Synthia and Rio being tied together but she chose to keep it. Besides, he has no right to know everything about her---he's nothing but just an acquaintance now.

Cyrus was about to leave when his phone beeped. He was surprised to find a picture of Syn and Rio together. Some mutual friend of theirs posted some of Syn and Rio's photos together during her mother's burial and Cyrus was seriously tagged in a throwback photo.

He doubted.

"Cindy, magkasama si Rio at Synthia?" He confirmed. Cindy couldn't lie anymore.

"Yes, magkasama po sila doon"

Cyrus wasted no time and bought a ticket, his flight is tonight at 10 PM.

"Are you okay? Kanina ka pa dun sa libing ng mommy mo. Syn, tell me if you're not fine" Rio held her by the waist as he guided her inside their house. Yes, they bought a house as soon as they got married.

"Stop calling me by my name. I love your endearment even though it sounds so baduy. Can you say that again?"

"Syn-ta ko" he chuckled as he realized how cheesy he was. She laughed and leaned on the sofa, "You're so baduy, Rio. Should I start calling you inii-Rio-g ko?" Syn retorted.

"Start calling me by that name if you get there" he said, she knew what he meant. Her mood changed; a pang of guilt hit her. "Joke! Sure, Synta ko" he said. Syn slapped him on his arm. She was frustrated but Rio did nothing but laugh.

"I just want to sleep---" she was about to go upstairs when she suddenly felt like throwing up so she headed to the sink and threw up. Syn's adrenaline rushed to her veins.

"Are you okay?" Rio asked and went after Syn.

It immediately came to her.

She looked at Rio "Give me my bag, we're leaving" Rio did what she said and got his keys. He rushed her to the nearest hospital.

It was no urgent matter but Rio was just too nervous so he stepped on the gas and steered on his steering wheel.

"Hoy! Eyes on the road, are you trying to commit suicide?! Chillax ka lang, okay?" Syn couldn't hide her laugh. She finds him cute when he worries too much. With that reaction of Rio, they reached the hospital in no time. He wanted her to just ride a wheelchair as they go inside the hospital but Syn refused.

"Pero nahihilo ka."

"Pero okay lang ako. Andiyan ka naman"

"Sus, gusto mo lang pala akong umalalay sayo. Sana sinabihan mo na lang ako"

"Whatever" Syn rolled her eyes playfully.

They entered an ob-gyne office which was her cousin's. She smiled. "Synthia! Oh my goodness, finally napag-isipan mo ding dumalaw sakin!" a doctora who was probably just the same age as her squealed.

Syn hugged her and kissed her cheek.

"Hello again, girl!"

"Nagkita na tayo kanina sa libing, miss me already? Synieeeee, you seriously don't have to go to my office just to be wi---"
