25: For the sake of Nio

"A-Atty. Fortrera, you're back." The staff stuttered upon seeing her. She smiled and greeted good morning "I'm with Atty. Alcasid." She said gently but then the staff stumbled and quickly got something inside her drawer.

"Medyo natagalan po p-pero now i-it's here" the staff handed her the document.

"Halata nga, mas matagal pa to kesa sa number of days ng arraignment. Anyway, thank you so much! Hope to see you again soon" she said and waved goodbye. She wondered why the staff was so scared of her. She looked at Darius and waved the document, he just finished talking to somebody over the phone---he looked devasted but it wasn't too soon when he had a smile on his face again.

"Thank you for the time, Syn. Finally makakaproceed na tayo before Christmas. Advanced Merry Christmas to you and your family." Darius said on their way out of the court, "No---thank you for the time and cooperation. Kung ibang lawyers pa yun, hindi papayag yun na magmanage ng first move ang colleague. So I guess I'll see you the day after tomorrow?"

"Can't wait to see you again. Ingat kayo" he said and hugged Syn. She tapped his back and said the same words. They were just waiting for Rio to arrive so Darius can make sure she safely got back home.

"Hi, finally!" She said as she saw Rio walking towards them with Nio. As the usual mommy's boy, Nio ran to her direction and hugged her legs.

"Have you theen the beatht inthide, mom? The'th wearing a corfrit thuit and the'th thcary." Nio said as she lifted him up. "No, I have not." She said and eyed Rio; he laughed.

"Oh and before I could forget! Babe, this is Tito Darius and Darius, this is my boy Nio. Rio, hon, this is Darius and Darius, this is my husband." She introduced. Rio smiled upon hearing her say 'hon'

"Hi, Arch. Ravena! I've heard so much about you" Darius said and shook his hand, Rio found him interesting.

"Atty. I've heard so much about you too from my wife. She's fond of working with you as her colleague." Rio said and received a light slap from Syn. "Anyway, we should get going now. See you soon!"

They parted ways after that. The Ravena's were on their way to a pizza parlor nearby for a snack. The rest of Syn's schedule was rescheduled as per Nio and Rio's request, those weren't too important anyway---just a few evaluation meetings and such.

"Mommy, I thought you're buthy?"

"Mommy's not busy anymore. Diba mommy promised to make time for her baby and the daddy?" She said and looked at Rio with a smile. Rio's eyes sparkled.

"Do you want to go to the mall after we eat pizza?" Syn asked Nio who enthusiastically nodded yes. "But Daddy will not be around na after we eat." Syn said and sighed. They've talked about Cyrus meeting Nio and it will happen this very day and he has a lot of work waiting as well so he cannot go.

"Why ith that?"

"Daddy has to go to the site so he can work."

"Can we go there too?"

"Some other time, how about that?"

"Yeth pleath! Will we meet the thcary beatht there, mommy?"

"Hindi." She shook her head and kissed the top of his head before reaching for Rio's arm to slap. Rio laughed and winced in pain, overreacting, "Mommy! Mathakit!" Rio mimicked Nio.

"Kung ano-ano ang pinapasok mo sa isip ng bata ha. Scary beast ka diyan" she said and rolled her eyes.

"But beautiful naman like mommy, eh diba, buddy?" Rio asked the kid. Nio nodded and looked at Syn's reaction. She looked away as she felt her cheek burning. "Bluthing alert!" Nio squealed and teased  Syn even more.
