"Mommy'th home!" Nio's voice echoed through their living room. The door knob twisted and the two of them waited, they stood upon the door. Syn jolted in surprise, her heart leaped in joy that her boys were waiting for her at the door.
"Mommy, I wath worried and now I'm thleepy already." Nio said and crossed his arms. Syn took him and lifted him up, "You're thleepy? Why so?" Syn mimicked him.
"In thcool, we colored tho many thtuffth like thingth we uthe on a picnic and thingth we uthe at home." after eventually finishing his story, he yawned and rubbed his eyes. "I really wanna go to bed now." he rested his head on Syn's shoulder as his arms are sweetly wrapped around her neck—the mommy's boy is making lambing.
Rio looked at Syn as she took Nio upstairs, he knew something was wrong with her so he followed them. Just in time for the heart warming scene, Syn was putting Nio to sleep although it's just 7 in the evening. Rio joined them and listened to mommy as she shared a story. Syn, still on her corporate attire, decided to tuck in with Nio for a while as she tells him a story. "Hon, lay down beside Nio." she told Rio who gladly obliged.
"What thtory are you gonna tell tonight, mommy?"
"About the girl who had to choose."
Rio found that interesting, he smiled and touched Nio's hair. Syn began to tell the story, "There was a girl who loved to eat chocolate. She would devour every chocolate she had on her grip. But as time passed by, the flavor of the chocolate seemed to be dull to her flavor palette—nothing new, just a sweet treat." the two of them listened carefully, wanting to hear the next part of the story.
"She went to a grocery store to pick out a treat she'll bring for her field trip. Can you guess what she bought?"
"I gueth, ith thtill chocolate?" Nio tried to guess.
"Probably, chocolate?" So did Rio.
Syn chuckled and finally continued the story "Now, listen. She saw a granola bar which she loved before chocolate, she missed the taste of the granola bar—its mouth misses the sweet countryside flaky flavor—"
"But mommy, the loveth chocolate more!"
"Kaya nga, she has to choose between the chocolate that she loves or the granola bar that she loved way before chocolate and she misses. In times like this, you have to choose no matter how much you love something; a chocolate that can fill your tummy and can make you happy or a granola bar that can also do both?"
"But if I may ask, ano ba talaga ang desire ng girl?"
"Daddy, mommy thaid ith chocolate but the altho loveth the bar."
"Just choose both, easy."
"Daddy, you cannot chooth both! If you will do that, you will keep on doing that for the retht of your life." Nio explained and turned to Synthia "If I wath the girl, I will chooth the granola bar over the chocolate becauth if I will chooth thomething that I'm no longer fond of, thath jutht like forthing my thelf."
"Very well said, love." Syn smiled and kissed his forehead.
"Tho mommy, am I right?"
Syn looked at Rio and then at Nio, "It doesn't matter if your decision is right or wrong but it is up to you to make it right. Follow your desire, it is good to listen to your heart for happiness but it's good to listen to your brain for morality—sometimes, learn to compromise."
