27: Daddies

"Mommy, why can't I bring my camera?" Nio asked and ate his spoonful, "Mwomwy, why nwot?" He spoke, his mouth full. Syn clicked her tongue and raised an eyebrow, "Did mommy and daddy tell you to speak while your mouth is full?"

He shook his head and pouted, realizing what he just did.

"No?" She confirmed.

Nio swallowed his food, "No, mommy and daddy did not thay that. Thorry." He said and smiled after. He knew exactly how to melt his mom's heart. "Alrighty then, let's get you dressed up after eating." She said in a baby voice and then she slightly fuzzed his hair.

Today was the day she meant to meet up with Cyrus and no, Rio doesn't know about it yet. And she's nervous as hell.

"Hon, ano pang ginagawa mo diyan?" She went inside the room. Rio was looking outside the open window, he looked at peace and calm. She hugged him from behind and sniffed his scent.

"Synthia," he spoke and removed her arms from his body. She looked at him and observed; he looked worried. He turned to her and held her shoulders. His warmth was loving and gentle and it's funny how that simple thing made her feel guilty. It made her feel like cheating over Cyrus---is she?

"Sinaktan ka ba ni Alyana? Dumating pala siya nung nagkita kayo ni Cyrus."

"H-hindi, walang nangyari sakin. Nagtalo lang kami doon pero we got out of the trouble immediately---"

"Nagtalo? May masama ba siyang sinabi---"

"Rio, it's okay. Okay na lahat." She cupped his cheeks to shut him up. All he could do was shut up and listen to her, "Konting bangayan lang." She said.

Syn sighed, "Rio... May sasabihin ako"

"Ano yun?" he smiled and tucked her lose hair behind her ear. No word dared to fall out of her mouth.

"A-aalis na tayo, dalian mo na." She stammered and smiled. Rio nodded and went downstairs to check on Nio. As soon as he left the room, Syn cursed herself for not telling him the truth. He can't lie to Rio! What would he think if he finds out?

I have to tell him before he leaves for work after the mass.

The mass ended and she still haven't said a word about it. Syn was dozing off most of the time and Rio couldn't help his self from wondering. "Ano na namang iniisip mo?"

Syn looked quite alarmed, "A-ako? Iniisip ko?"

"Pwede bang malaman kung anong nasa-isip mo?" He asked. She smiled faintly, "Fine. Everything's fine" she said.

"Iniisip mo parin ba yung school na papasukan ni Nio? Don't worry, chichikahan kita mamaya" he excitedly said  as they walked outside the church. Nio was already outside since he ran towards an ice cream stall right after the mass. "Can you stay? Nio misses these days with Daddy."

"Or the mommy?" He jested. She laughed and pouted after.

But Rio's phone rang.

"Akala ko ba mamaya pang 3?---Talaga ba?---Sige, tatawag ako ulit." He was talking with somebody over the phone. He turned to Syn with resentful eyes. "Honey..." He paused and looked down.

Syn held him by the jaw.

"Next time." She simply said with a smile. Syn called out Nio and told him to hasten to their direction. He didn't want to yet but he knew he had to oblige. "Daddy will not be around for the rest of the day." Rio explained.

Nio's little heart broke, "But you promithed! Y-you th-thaid we will... I thought... We will... O-okay." He gave up. Upon seeing that, their hearts melted and broke at the very same time.
