As the sun reached its peak in the sky, I was startled by a gentle knock on my door. I made my way over and swung it open to find my mom standing there, with Gab right behind her. "Mom!" I exclaimed, pulling her into a warm embrace, but couldn't help but notice that someone was missing. "Where's Jack?" I inquired, wondering about the whereabouts of my brother. "Urgent Mountie business," she explained, "But he wanted me to tell you that he wishes he could be here to help." "Ah, I see," I responded, smiling as I considered that his absence meant he'd have to make an appearance sooner or later. "Shall we start getting you moved in?" my mom asked. "Absolutely," I chuckled. The three of us headed over to the back of the wagon to retrieve my belongings. As we carried the boxes in, Gab eagerly assisted by handing us more to carry, maintaining a steady rhythm as we ferried my possessions into the house.

After spending about two hours moving all the boxes into the house and unpacking most of my belongings, we realized that it was getting late. My mom had to head back to Hope Valley before it got dark to ensure a safe journey home.. "Are you sure you can't stay tonight, and just leave in the morning?" I asked my mom, "I wish I could but school starts in two days in Hope Valley and I need to finish up some lessons before then." She told me, "All right." I gave her a hug. "When does school start here?" She asked. "A week, I need to get lessons done as well." I smiled as my mom jumped up on the wagon. "Tell my brother that I said he has to come out one more time before school starts." I told my mom. ""I will. Where did that Mountie go?" she asked me. "He went off to town to get some wood since the last teacher didn't leave any," I told her. "You guys would make a cute couple," my mom said. "Mom! Absolutely not! I'm a very impatient person and I don't need a man any time soon. And you know I don't want to get involved with a Mountie," I told her. "That's exactly what I said before I met your father." She said hitting the rains, "Love you!" She yelled moving into the distance, "Love you too!" I yelled.

About 15 minutes later Constable Kinslow came back with the wood. "Thank you Constable Kinslow ." I said as we came in with the wood that I needed. "Please, call me Gab." He said putting the wood down. "Okay. Thank you Gab. " I smiled, "I was just about to start dinner, would you join me? It's the least I can do for all your help today." I told him. "I wouldn't want to introduce, Your just setting in." Gab said, "No introduced at all. I have some chicken that I got from the store today, that I was gonna make." I told him. "If you instead." He smiled, "I do." I smiled back. "And you would be impressed of me, I didn't even get lost." I laughed, which he did back.

I prepared a delicious chicken dish for dinner, and while we ate, we had a heartfelt conversation. He shared his life story with me, and I reciprocated by sharing mine. I spoke about never having known my father, but my mom always told me that he was an exceptional man who would have made a wonderful father. In return, he opened up about his reasons for aspiring to be a Mountie, and I shared my passion for becoming a teacher, just like my mom. As the evening wore on, it grew late, and my companion, Gab, had to take his leave.

"Thank you dinner, Miss Thornton." Gabriel said grabbing this coat, the summer weather was feuding fast. "You're welcome. And please call me Adeline." I smiled. "All right. Thank you, Adeline." He said smilingAs he made his way back to town, I watched him lead his horse through the small wooded area that connects to the trail. Once he disappeared from sight, I turned my attention to doing the dishes and tidying up the space. After that, I set about unboxing the remaining items and organizing them in my new place.

It was about 9:30 and still wasn't tried to I worked on some school lessons that I needed to get done, it was basic review for the first couple of weeks. I always love getting my lessons around cause that means school stats! After two hours of getting lessons ready, I was getting tired and I laid my head down for a minute.

The next thing I know, I wake up to the loudest rumble of thunder I've ever heard. Realizing that I was still at the table, I got to look out the window to see it was pouring rain. "Well, looks like I won't be going to town today unless this nasty rain stops." I said out loud to myself. I had to take care of sergeant still, so I put my rain coat on and headed out the door. It was pouring buckets and buckets of rain I ran to the barn and opened the wood door and shut it behind me. "It's nasty sergeant." I said to my horse. I gave him hay and water and had brave the weather back to the house. There was much to do on rainy days like this, I realized need to go to town and get more food and supplies for school but if this rain doesn't stop I'm not going anywhere.
