I knocked on the door and one of the kids opened it, "Hi, Rose." I smiled as she opened the door, "Hi, Miss Thornton." She smiled as I walked in, "You're early." Grace said walking out, "Yes I am. I thought maybe I could hang out with the kids while you cook." I smiled, "What did you think, Rose? You want to hang out with Miss Thornton and start?" Grace asked, "Yes!" Rose said happily, Grace and I let out a chuckle. There was a knock on the door and Grace went to open it, it was Gabriel.
"Is Lillian here?" He asked, "Yeah come on in, I'll go get her." Grace said, I didn't really pay attention to him and just talked to Rose. Grace came back with Lillian and she went to talk with Gabriel in a different part of the room. Just than jimmy came down and bumped into Rose, "Ow." Rose said rubbing her arm, Grace looked up at me, I knew that they were having a hard time with him not listening, cause fights like that.
"Jimmy." Grace said to him, he roll his eyes and walked back over, "Please say your sorry." Grace told him, "I don't have to listen to you, your not my parents!" Jimmy said running out, Lillian and Gabriel looked up. "I'll go get him!" I said running out a different door so I could get him.
"Let me go!" Jimmy said, I didn't say anything. "I hate you. I hate all of you!" Jimmy yelled, I looked up to see the three of them in a window watching. "Hey, Jimmy. No you don't. You done hate me. You don't hate any of us. You're upset because you miss your parents. It's why your not listening, it's why your getting into fights. Because it hurts to think about them, it hurts to be alone. It's hurts to not have the people you love to tell you it's gonna be okay." I told him, "You don't know anything!" He told me, "Yeah, I do... I do. Cause I lost my dad, too. And it feels like someone took something from you. Like there's a giant hole inside you. But one day, that... that feeling your feelings right now... that feeling is gonna go away. I promise." I told him my eyes started to water is wasn't something I like to talk about. "It's not fair." Jimmy told me, "No, it's not fair that all, Jimmy. But just because your parents aren't here, doesn't mean they're not with you. You have them right in here." I said pointing to his heart, "Every moment... of everyday. Okay?" I told him, he nodded his head and we hugged. We talked for a minute before heading back inside, I overheard them talking. "She's going to be an amazing mother one day." I heard Lillian to the small group around the window, "Yeah. Yeah she is." Gabriel said.
I played with the kids before dinner was ready, they invited Gabriel to stay but he didn't stay probably because it would be awkward for us. "This is amazing!" I told the two sisters as I ate the soup they made. "Thank you." Lillian smiled. "So, how was the first day of school?" Lily asked, "It was good. It was good to be back in the classroom again." I smiled, "Thats great," Grace told me, I nodded my head.
I was drying dishes as Lillian washed them, it was the least I could after them making me dinner. It was quite we did talk much, Grace was getting the kids around for bed. "You both are made for each other." Lillian said handing me a dish, "What?" I asked confused, "You and Gabriel. You two are supposed be together," Lily said to me, "How do you know?" I asked her, "Because you don't look at each other with butterflies and happiness. You look at each other with reality but at the same time, there's a fairytale awaiting you." She said with a smile, I didn't say anything back. "Why did you want a break?" She asked, "Because I don't know if I'm brave enough for to spend the rest of my life with someone as brave as him. He puts his on life on the line everyday when he wears that uniform. And he's good at what he does don't get me wrong, it's... it's just I'm afraid that one day he won't come home." I told her, "You are one of the bravest person I know. And I know how it feels to be scared that one day he won't come home. I know I could never be strong enough for be with him, but you are." Lillian told me, I nodded my head.
I said my goodbyes and headed off to my house, it was about desk but I had enough light to get home safely. Once I got home I fed Sergeant and got some hot bath water to relax in for a little bit. You could already start to feel the cold winter air coming quickly, it was that time a year once again.
