The October air came through my window which sent a chill down my back the weather was turning fast and everyone knew winter was just around the corner. I've been busy with wedding planning, we've settled on a spring wedding and its going to be beautiful. Grace would be my maid of honor, and Lillian and penny would be bridesmaids. Small but simple.
I finished packing my picnic basket and headed off to town. I would be surprising Gabriel for lunch. He and I couldn't be happier to have out wedding in just a few short months.
"Hi, Adeline." Joe waved as I walked by.
"Hey, Joe." I waved back.
I made my way across the dirt road to Gabriel's office. I opened the door and walked in, once Gabriel saw me he smiled.
"It's my beautiful bride-to-be." Gabriel smiled.
"Just a couple more months." i smiled. "Are you busy at the moment?"
"No. Just finished up what i needed to do for today before i do my rounds in a bit."
"Great! i have lunch!" I said as i picked up the basket to show him, he smiled at the kind gesture that his soon-to-be wife had made.
the warm sun felt wonderful as Gabriel and I ate lunch in my favorite spot, we laughed till our sides hurt, we talked wedding details, and we just enjoyed each others company. "Thank you for lunch. I really needed this Adeline, thank you for being so amazing."
"Anything for you my love." i said. He leaned in for a kiss and i of course kissed him back.
Gabriel needed to get back to work and i needed to do more planning, there is still a lot to do, and will be until our big day but i didnt care i was marrying the love of my life. we said our goodbyes and went our ways, i headed back to my house. on my way there i noticed some dark clouds rolling in, must be a storm coming in. I had just walked though the door when it started to poor I let out a sigh has i shut the wood door be hide me, gotta love the summer rain.
"Its been almost three days and it still hasn't stopped raining, Gabriel is starting to worry about the river. There hasn't been a flood in many years in here Brookfield but many people are afraid that it will, I'm praying that it doesn't . Wedding plans are coming along well, with help from my mom, penny, and now grace. Im so grateful for the time their putting in to help make it a beautiful day for Gabriel and i." I smiled as i closed my book.
The door open and Gabriel walked though i gave him a smile which he gave back. "Im really hoping that this rain stops soon, the river is getting worse by which passing minute, and the ground is gonna be wet for days."
"Do you think the town really could be flooded if the rain doesn't stop?" i asked worried for my small town.
"If this rain doesn't at least light up within the next 42 hours, im afraid there might be good chance of that." He said honestly. "Be praying that it does, Adeline."
"I definitely will be, Gabriel. Do want anything warm to drink? Coffee? Tea?"
"Coffee sounds good. Thank you, love" Gabriel sat down at the table as I put some water on for coffee. "How long are you gonna be here? should i plan on making enough for two for dinner?" i asked hoping he would be here. "I would love too but im gonna crush at the office tonight, chuck and i are gonna make a few trips to the river over night just to play it safe." He told him, he saw the worry and saddens that was written all over my face.
"Don't worry Ad, we'll be safe i promise. Ill make it up to you tomorrow, okay?" He said giving me a big hug.
"You better. Also i need to go over some wedding things with you tomorrow as well." I smiled.
"Sounds good."
Gabriel finished up this coffee and headed back out to town. It was always hard to watch him leave and me trying not to worry about him, i knew he was good at what he does but still. i made myself dinner which was some mac and cheese, it was pretty good. For the rest of the evening I read a book, played with blizzard, and cleaned a bit. I found myself wishing Gabriel was here with me but our wedding will be soon and be wont be apart.
When i woke up the next morning instead of it raining like it has been for the past few days the sun was out and shining though the window, i jumped out of bed at the sight and went right to the door. The birds where chirping, the the wild animals where back out. i smiled with happiness. I decided to go out into town since it has been what felt like forever being stuck at home.
"Grace!" I yelled as i saw her walking out from Joes. "Its been way to long since I've seen you last!"
"Yes it has been! Thankfully that rain stopped i thought it was never going too." she told with a cheerful smile.
"I know, i was starting to think the same. Im glad it did, Gabriel was getting worried about the river as was the town." I told her and she agreed.
"I have to get back to the house and help Lily before i go to work but do you wanna go out for a ride later? say around 3?" Grace asked. Its been almost two weeks since i last went for a ride the ieds sounded wonderful.
"Yes I would love too!" I told her with a smile. dec
"Great. Meet me at Joes at 3."
"I cant wait!" i smiled before we prated ways.
I opened the door without realizing that Gab and another constable where talking i felt bad, "Im sorry, ill come back once your done." i tried to leave. "Adeline please dont leave we were just finishing up." Gabriel said as i open the door, i smiled and closed the door and walked over to Gabriel.
"Sir, i would like you to meet my fiancé." Gabriel said introducing me to his superior.
"Nice to meet you, sir. I'm Adeline, im the towns teacher." i smiled as i shook his hand.
"Nice to meet you, young lady. Got yourself a good one Kinslow. Please let me know of your decision by tomorrow." He said before leaving.
"What decision?"
