It was been almost one month since I've been here and it has been amazing! Grace and I have become best friends, we spend most of our days together at some point or another. Gab and I have become close friends, he's a great guy in many ways. In fact he's coming over tonight for dinner, but he wants to cook, we'll see how it goes. My mom and brother have come about 3 times since I've been out here.
Right now it's about 10 o'clock and school is in session, I'm sitting at my desk grading papers as the kids are working on their math. I look up to see a hand rised, it was little Timmy brown, he just started school this year so he as trouble with this math sometimes. I walked over to him to see why I could help him with. "Yes, Timmy?" I went down to his level, "I don't understand math, Miss Thornton!" He said upset. Just than Gabe walked in to fix my window that would shut properly. All the kids looked at him, "Back to your work, please." I said to them. "Let me go talk to Mountie Kinslow, than we'll make math easier, okay?" I told him, "Okay." He said, "In the meantime, do what you understand." He nodded his head and began doing what he could, I smiled at him before heading over to Gab. "I thought you weren't coming till school was done, Constable." I told him. "I was planning on it, but there's a bad storm heading our way." He told me, "How bad?" I asked. "Bad." He told me, and when a Mountie says it's bad it's definitely bad. "Okay. Just get the window done and than leave." I told him, "But what if I wanted to learn about history." Gab said in a mocking way, "Are you mocking me, Gabriel Kinslow?" I asked as I put my hands on my hips. "I would never do such a thing!" He joked with me, I rolled my eyes and walked back over to Timmy, when Rosie raised her hand, "Yes Rosie?" I asked, "Are you and Mountie Gabriel gonna get married?" She asked in all her innocence, Gabe instantly looked up at me, you could tell he was laughing but also smiling, "No Rosie, Mountie Gabriel and I are good friends nothing more." I told her, I'm sure my cheeks were red as a rose. "Class, get back to work or I'll send you homework for the weekend." That made them instantly go back to work, Gab looked over at me, I mouthed 'sorry' to him and he said 'it's okay' back to me, and I went back to helping Timmy with his math.
It was 2pm and it was storming really bad, i kept an eye out the window watching the storm. I was thinking of dismissing school early today since it was so bad outside, when the door opened it was Lillian and Grace, they looked pretty worried. "Class back to work." I told them as I walked over to them, "What's going on?" I asked, "Gabriel said to come get you and the kids, there's a chance of a tornado and he wants everyone in the basement of the orphanage." Lillian told me, I didn't say anything but went upfront, "School is dismissed. But we all are gonna go with Miss Lillian and Miss Grace. No asking questions, come on hurry up." I told them, Everyone went up to the girls but before I could go I had to let out sergeant just incase so he can run off and be safe, I'll find him later. "Grace, can you guys go head? I have to go let out Sergeant so he doesn't get hurt." I told her. "Yeah, but hurry up. Gabriel wouldn't have us do this unless he thought something was gonna happen." Grace told him. "I know. I'll be fast." I give her a smile. They took the kids and I put my coat on and started running to my house.
Gabriel's POV....
I was helping people into the basement of the orphanage when lily and Grace came back with the kids. I happened to look up and see a funnel cloud appearing in the sky, "Great." I said to myself. I noticed that Adeline wasn't with the girls I and instantly became worried. "Get the kids in now!" I yelled, as the funnel turned into a tornado. "Grace! Where's Adeline?!" I asked worried, "She said that she had to let out sergeant than she would be coming." My face dropped "She's out there?!" Grace nodded her head, she was worried about her friend as much as I was. The tornado was coming towards town and I couldn't go after Adeline, she's a smart woman hopefully she can find Shelter okay.
10 minutes later everything stop, I went up first to check, the sun came out and I could see the damage, nothing terrible just minor damage to everything. "You can come out now!" I yelled into the basement, everyone came out and I had to go find Adeline. I found my horse not far from the house and took off to her place, but I couldn't get though because of fallen trees so I jumped off my horse and careful ran the rest of the way to her place. "Adeline!" I yelled out hoping to hear her. "Adeline!" I yelled again, "A- Adeline!" I yelled once again, the door open and there she was, she was crying. "Adeline!" I said in relief, she ran to me "Gabriel!" She said coming into a hug. "I was so scared, I tried to come back to town when I saw the funnel cloud so I ran back to my house." She said crying pretty hard. "It's okay. It's over now. It's over." I told her, I fell to the ground with her in my arms and held her as she cried.
Adeline's POV....
"Adeline!" I heard my name off in the distance but I couldn't tell who it was, tears fell down my face I was terrified. "Adeline!" I heard my name again but still couldn't tell who is was. I didn't want to leave my spot which was under my table, I-I was to sacred. "A-Adeline!" I heard my name once again, but this time I knew who it was, it was Gabriel. I quickly came out from underneath my hiding spot and ran to the door, I opened it so see him 20 feet from my door. "Gabriel!" I ran to him crying. "I was so scared, I tired to come back to town when I saw the funnel cloud, so I ran back to my house." I said sobbing "Its okay. It's over now. It's over." He told me, his arms felt like a safe place for me to be, I fell to the ground crying, where he tired to clam me down.
20 minutes later....
"Are you sure you good enough to go to town?" Gabriel asked concerned for me, I nodded my head yes. "Yes. I'm sorry about this I don't usually cry in front of people." I said softly. "You don't need to be sorry, your life was in danger you had every right to cry." He told me, a small smile come over my face. "Thank you." I smiled, "Shall we?" He said smiled moving his hand to the direction of his horse. We walked to his horse where he jumped up on him and than helped me jump on. "You might want to hold on." He said warning me, I didn't say anything as I put my hands around his hips to hold on, as he started into a counter towards town. "Adeline!" Grace yelled as she soon as she saw me, which cause everyone to look. Gabriel jumped off first and helped me after, I was nearly knocked over by the force of Graces hug. "I was so worried about you." She said with tears in her eyes, than Lillian ran over and give me a hug too. "Adeline. I was so so worried." Lillian said coming out of our hug, "We all were." Gabriel said coming into our small group. I couldn't help but smile at him, Gabriel was just a friend but what if that turns into more? "Well, if you'll excuse me." Gabriel smiled before leaving us in the middle of the street. "Oh my!" Grace said happily, "Oh my, what?" I asked confused, "He likes you." She squealed happily. "Keep your voice down! And no he doesn't he just a good friend." I told her, "Whatever you say." Grace responded with a smile.
I was sitting at my desk in the school house collecting and grading paperwork that needed to be done. The work that the kids didn't finish today would have to extra work for Monday, I'm not sending homework to the kids after today. The door squealed open and I looked up to see Gabriel walking towards me, "Figured I would find you here." He said taking his hat off. "A teachers work is never done." I told him, as I moved on to the next paper. "I got a letter five minutes ago, I'll be leaving at sunrise tomorrow." He said, I think my face dropped the smile it had on it. "Why?" I ask worried, "Mountie business, you know how that goes." He told me, "Afraid I do." I said, "I was thinking maybe after i get back we could go on a ride and have a picnic at my land." He told me, "Since when do you have own land," I asked confused, "Since today. I just signed the paperwork an hour ago. So you up for a little adventure?" He asked again, "Always." I told him, "I'll be looking forward to it." He smiled, "How long will you be gone for?" I ask wondering, "A week or two, it depends." He told me, "Well I have to hit the hay. See you when i get back, Adeline." He smiled as he started to walk away. "Gabriel!" I yelled getting up to run over to him, he turned around as I came in for a hug. "Be safe.... for me." I told him in the middle of our hug. I give him a kiss on the cheek, we locked eyes for what felt like forever but in reality was only for a few seconds. He give me a small smile as he opened the door and close it behind him, I smiled to myself before returning to my desk.
It was getting late and I finished what I needed to do, it was dark but I had a lantern and I made my way back to my house. I was worried about Sergeant, he doesn't know where he is and the weather was getting cold quickly. Hopefully he'll come back tomorrow. Once I reached my house and made a fire and made myself a little dinner. I was tried after a very inventful day, I changed into my night grow and fell asleep as soon as I hit the pillow.
