I rang the bell to have the kids come in, it was the first day of school and I was excited to start again. "Good morning class! How was your summer?" I asked the children who were still finding their seats. They all said they had a fun summer which made me happy to hear it. "I'm glad you all had such a great summer! Now before he get started I have some exciting news to share with you all!" I smiled at them, "Mountie Gabriel and I are having a baby!" I said happily as all the kids got excited for him and I. "Okay class, please settle down. I know it's very exciting for me as well. Alright let's start with some math review, I'll head out sheets. Now these ones I'm not grading I'm just seeing how well you all remembered math from last year." I told them as I turned to my desk to grab my papers. I was handing them out when I noticed a very sad Emily in the back row.

"Emily what's wrong?" I asked as I sat down by her.  "Are you gonna leave us when you have the baby?" She asked which made me downhearted. "Oh Emily. I'm not going anywhere, I promise. I'm still gonna be your teacher even when I have my own children." I said pulling her into a hug. "You promise?" She asked I smiled at her, "I promise."

"She really asked that?" Lillian asked as she handed my tea, I nodded my head. "It made me so sad when she asked." I told her before sipping my tea. "Those kids love you." Lillian smiled as she told me, "And I love them." I smiled. "Have you heard from Gabriel recently?" Lillian asked, "No." I said disappointed, "I write him almost every day but im running out of things to say." I told Lillian honestly, "There's always I love you." Lillian smiled suggesting an idea. "I saw yesterday in the newspaper that a squad of Mounties was ambushed, two of them were killed." I told her. "That's crazy. I'm praying for him everyday." Lillian told me before having another sip of her tea. "I don't know if I'll ever get used to this." I said with a sigh, "You're not supposed to get used to it." She smiled, "Well I probably should be going. Thank you for the tea and a listening ear, it means a lot." I smiled standing up from my seat, "Of course. We're all here for you, Adeline." Lillian smiled before giving me a hug.

The summer sun was fading fast you could tell that fall was right around the corner, the leaves are changing, my garden is ready to be harvested. I just wish Gabriel was here to see how well my garden came out, he was looking forward to it. I fed Sergeant and made myself something for dinner, I was tried after the first day back at school but before I went to bed I sat down to write Gabriel a letter.

"My dearest Gabriel,

I miss you so much and I long for the day when you return safely, I pray that day comes soon. I'm busy with school which I'm thankful for, the children are wonderful as always. My garden came out wondrous, I'll have lots of can veggies for the winter! Everyone is always checking in on me im so thankful we have such wonderful friends who are so willing to help. One thing I know for sure is that, distance between two hearts is not an obstacle... rather a beautiful reminder of just how strong true love is. Please come home soon, I'll be waiting here patiently. I love you.

Your loving wife, Adeline."
