9:20am

"Make sure you clean the windows properly." My aunt hands me a spray bottle and a rag.

After nodding my head, she retreats back into the cafè.

More tedious work is done by me. I'm nothing but a useful maid to her.

I spray and throughly wipe the windows of the small building. People must be wondering what this boy with a red apron and a black hoodie is doing. They might think I'm a delinquent.

"Sweep." My aunt demands once I finish wiping the windows. She always gives me orders, even when we're at home. To keep me busy so my mind won't think.

She has to watch me. Or else she'll lose me.

I stand outside and sweep the leaves off of the cream concrete. The spring wind whistles in my ear and birds tweet and caw as they soar through the clear blue sky.

"Hi stranger!"

I jump from the sudden voice beside me. I turn to see the same bubbly boy from yesterday morning. He has on another oversized sweater, this time it's black, with black jeans. A jean jacket is worn on top of his sweater.

"Good morning!" He smiles at me, brightly.

I nod my head frantically. He scared me.

"Are you gonna talk today?"

My head shakes.

"Aww man." He pouts again. Then his face lights up. "Did you like the lollipop?"

I hesitate for moment. He stares at me with eyes full of anticipation. Slowly, I nod my head yes.

"Yay! You liked it!" He jumps up and claps his hands.

"You want another one?" He reaches into the pocket of his jacket and pulls out another strawberry lollipop. His eyes sparkle as I take the lollipop out of his fingers' clutch.

He giggles as I accept his gift.

"I hope you like it!" He chirps as he enters the cafè.

2 days in a row. He's spoken to me. Does he feel pity for me? Why would he waste his energy on me?

In a couple of minutes, he exits the store with the trademark to-go container in his grasp.

"Red velvet." He holds up the container and smiles at me. "Bye stranger!" He waves goodbye to me.

I nod my head.

"No, no, no." He shakes his head and closes his eyes. "Wave back, silly." He giggles.

My hand awkwardly removes its grip on the broomstick and moves side to side slowly. He giggles again.

"It's okay! We'll work on it. Bye!" He skips off again, this time I see him skip all the way down the road until he disappears.

What a strange boy...
