He picks a yellow daffodil and a blue daisy.

He twirls the bright green stems in has fingers and smells the fresh, earthy scent of the flowers. A small smile curves on his lips as he places the flowers into his brown basket.

His once blond hair is almost completely drowned in the color black. Only the tips of his hair bear the bright blond color.

Black is a beautiful color on him. It brightens his pale skin and complements his mesmerizing brown eyes.

I place a another green stem into his hands.

Those breathtaking eyes stare into mine as I crouch to his position.

A red rose twirls in his hand as he stares at me. He holds it up to his nose, the velvety red is gorgeous next to his pale face.

I take the rose from his hands and push it behind his ear.

I place a tender kiss against his soft, pink lips.

"Happy birthday Mark."

Just like the year before, Mark cries on his birthday.

He engulfs me into a hug as he cries. I rock him slowly so, I won't mess up the garden he's put so much of his soul into.

Last year, I didn't know why he cried but now, I understand completely.

He cries because...this may be his last birthday being alive.

And I'll make sure that it won't be terrible. For starters, I pull out a familiar object out of my pocket.

Mark covers his mouth as joyful tears cascade down his cheeks.

"A wise person once told me these are the cure to happiness." I smile as I place the object in Mark's hand.

"You want a strawberry lollipop?"

Mark sobs as he hugs me even tighter than before.

"Thank you." He chokes out between sobs.

And we sit in the garden until his tears dry and I see that marvelous smile that will never fail to captivate me.

Here's to another birthday, Mark. Let's hope you can see your 24th birthday.

Let's hope.
