6:15am
"You've got mail!" Dr. Choi slaps an envelope on the dinner table.
He made himself an extra key so he can enter the house whenever he wants to.
Whenever he needs to rescue me.
"Is it bills?" I ask, uninterested, as I put on my uniform for work.
"Nope. A letter."
"Mimi Wang."
My fingers freeze as I'm buttoning my shirt.
I march towards Dr. Choi and snatch the letter out of his hand.
"Your aunt?" He questions.
I don't reply. I rip the white envelope open and I unfold the paper inside.
Hey Jackson,
I know it's been a while and...you probably don't want to see me. But, I heard you're going through a rough time. Come visit me if you can. Let's talk in person.
Mimi
After all this time...she wants to talk now?
I ball the letter up in my fist and chuck it into the garbage can.
"Hey now, Jackson." Dr. Choi grabs my arm.
"Give her a chance."
"Why should I?" I yank my arm out of his grip.
"I don't know why you should. I'm just saying, give her a chance."
I don't respond. I grab my duffelbag and head out for work.
"I'm making you some soup! You better eat it!" Dr. Choi calls after me.
I don't want any soup. I don't want anything.
Why should I meet her?
"Meet her." Jinyoung stares at me firmly.
I sigh.
"You have to hear what she says." Namjoon agrees.
"I don't want to." I continue to type on the computer. Configuration is my boss's favorite assignment for me.
Jinyoung pulls my face away from the computer screen and he stares me dead in the eyes.
"Meet. Her. You'll regret it if you don't."
And he leaves me to my thoughts.
Should I?
Should I meet the woman who's abused me for years? The woman Mark disliked?
What should I do?
