7:20pm

"First day on the job." Mark kicks his feet in the air as he stares at me getting dressed.

"I don't want to leave you."

"I'm fine." Mark smiles. "I'm not going anywhere."

That makes me happy.

Tonight, I start my new job. Night shift at the busy convenience store down the street from my aunt's old cafè. Mark said I might work best at night since I have trouble sleeping.

Eight in the evening to six in the morning. 11 hours 5 days a week. I need as many hours as possible.

Mark's been paying the bills all by himself for too long. It's about time I help him out.

I button the red vest with the words 'Hope Mart', printed in white, up neatly.  It rests on top of my black long-sleeve shirt.

Mark hops off of his bed and walks up to me. He pats my messy hair.

"Handsome." Mark says with a smile.

I'm sure he can't see it through my tanned skin but I feel my cheeks burning red.

We walk to the foyer of the apartment so I can put my shoes on.

"Good luck!" Mark cheers me on. He coughs a little then clears his throat. He's been sick recently.

"Be safe."

"Of course." Mark pinches my cheek. "I'll still be here when you get home."

I smile.

"Seeya." I open the front door.

"Bye Jackson!"

"Love you." I kiss his forehead. He places both of hands on the spot I kiss.

"Love you too!" He smiles shyly as a blush plays on his cheeks.

I wave one last time before I head off to work.

Hopefully, I can come home to see his smiling face. I'd never want to him to go when I'm not there. He would be lonely and sad.

I never want him to be sad.

Mark must stay happy. I must stay happy.

So, when his time comes, he won't feel any regrets.
