43. Throwback

Throwback to the day Natalie knew she was in love.

David and Natalie were hanging out every single day as students but not one of them ever found that weird. People kept teasing them, but the young friends never pulled a move.

They also never dated nobody else. David had a crush on Natalie and everybody knew. Even Natalie. He would turn down everybody when it came to hanging out with Natalie. He was the basic teenage boy that would scream "ew" when someone mentioned that Natalie looked pretty.

Natalie on the other hand was in denial. She tried to convince her girl friends that she had no feelings for David when in reality, every single time he talked to her (which was often) she got butterflies in her stomach. She playfully denied liking David when her mother brought him up.

They were almost adults now and David had decided to move out of his parents house. Vine proved to him that he could do great things. Moving out to LA was unreal for him, it was like a dream, for him and also all of his friends.

He announced that he would leave to his friends but he wanted to talk to Natalie in person. So for a couple of hours, everybody except for Natalie knew that David would leave them.

David prepared his speech. Leaving for LA meant that he might never see Natalie again. She wanted to study while he wanted to try out new things. "I'll ask her to come with me" he thought but realized that she wouldn't do that. Just to be with him.

She entered his basic room and sat on his bed waiting for him to sit next to her. But he was too nervous to actually do that. He kept pacing around fixing his hair before he breathed. "Natalie"

He stopped walking and looked deep into her eyes. "I don't know how to start. I don't know how to tell you" Natalie who was smiling minutes before, his nervousness made her anxious. "We've known each other many years, we've known each other pretty well" he said and Natalie agreed. "There's something you don't know" he decided to finally confess his feelings to her. He knew that she wouldn't have feelings for him so he was ready to just say it and then leave her.

He figured that it'd probably be easier to leave her, knowing that they would never have a chance.

"The thing you don't know about me is that I don't see you like I see other people. You're special. When I'm with you, I am just different. But, like, good different" he rubbed his hands on his pants because he was getting way too sweaty. "I guess what I'm trying to say is that I like you"

Natalie's heart stopped beating for a moment. Those words were never supposed to leave his mouth. She was used to being secretive about her feelings because David would never confess. She thought that she would live like this forever. She cracked a smile while he wasn't looking, only to realize that he wasn't done talking.

"Damn, that wasn't easy, and the next parr's gonna be harder" he breathed out and sat next to her. He started talking about vine, and how popular he got and how he thought that he could be even bigger. "I just need to be away from here, LA is like full of connections and opportunities" he kept talking and talking explaining how much he wanted to leave Vernon Hills.

Natalie just sat there listening to her best friend explaining to her how he's going to leave her right after he confessed.

"That's why I wanted to say all of this. I really want to leave, but I had to tell you the truth"

"The timing wasn't good Dave" she was partly mad at him, but she also wanted him to be happy and successful even if that meant that she wouldn't be there for him. "Because I really love you" she knew that her eyes were watery and her hand was shaking. "And I really want you to be happy. But that means that you're happy without me" she burst into crying and David stayed still. He knew that this would be hard but he never imagined that Natalie liked him back. Knowing that if he had said it sooner, they would be together, he felt his heart beating faster than ever.

"Do you mean that?" he simply asked as he hadn't realized that the only girl he had a crush on the Natalie Mariduena had a crush on him too. "Come with me" he quickly proposed. "Let's go to LA together and live with each other. Let's just go" even his eyes were smiling.

"You know I can't do this! I want to go to college. Not to California. I saved up money for this" she was so disappointed, and David felt bad.

"I know" he hugged her. "I'll wait for you though" he rubbed her back. "Because you're the only person I want next to me, in the future. When in the future I'm successful and happy, I'm only happy because you're there" he made Natalie smile, but she knew better that once he moved out to LA he would forget about her, and he would find someone else.

"Don't feel like you can't date others" she smiled.

"I won't. But even if I do, I'll let them go when you're ready" they joked around and she helped him start packing.
