"You're driving" David shouted walking out of the house, getting in his Tesla. Natalie rolled her eyes trying to make him understand that she doesn't like that car. Well, not that she didn't like it, but she was afraid to drive it. It was super nice.
They were both in the car looking at each other. "What do we do now?" Natalie asked David waiting for him to start telling her his plan.
"I have no idea" he said leaving her speechless that he didn't have anything planned. "I'm hungry, wanna go grab something?"
Natalie shook her head and started driving. She was always in for food. No one believed her when she explained that she eats a lot, and not healthy stuff. Except for David, he knew her too well.
"I knew it" he smiled wide and looked at the road. He was so glad that he could be completely himself when he was around her. She had been in L.A. for a whole year now, and he couldn't remember what he was doing before her. What would he be doing right now?
They drove to a drive through to pick some stuff. "What do you want to eat?" she asked as she had decided the place.
"Just order whatever you like and we will split" he answered and she felt relieved. With David, it was easy. He was her other half, he would do anything for her and she would do too. Even when they were fighting, deep down they knew that in a few hours they would need each other. No fight had lasted for more than a total of one day.
She ordered chicken nuggets, sandwiches and fries with two drinks. Natalie grabbed the food and handed it to David who ate one of the fries. "Don't!" she warned him as she was so hungry, and David burst into laughter.
"I know... I said we would go some place to eat because you were hungry" he laughed. "I'm not really hungry, but I'll eat"
Natalie looked at him. "Aw" she said and grabbed one of the fries too. She parked the car somewhere quiet and took a bite of the sandwich. "Do you wanna try?" she said and immediately regretted it.
Back then, he would never complain about eating from where someone else had just ate. They always shared foods and drinks. But he would listen to him complain about it to Joe or Jason these days. She figured he wouldn't want to share the sandwich. But she didn't say anything else.
"Sure" he opened his hand waiting for Natalie to give him the sandwich. Natalie looked at him surprised. "What?" He asked with his mouth full.
"Nothing" she ate a nugget. And he continued waiting for her answer so she explained. "I thought you wouldn't wanna eat from the same sandwich as me. I mean I don't know why, we always shared food"
"I don't have a problem with you" he said casually. "I mean I wouldn't eat if someone else had a bite, but I don't care about it when I know it's you"
"Thanks" she smiled and rethought of it. "I guess" she said trying not to sound to flattered. David laughed at her rosy cheeks. She was either blushing from the flirting or from the hot sauce.
Natalie opened a water bottle. "I'm so hot" she said trying to change the subject.
"I know. That's what I'm saying to anyone that hasn't met you" David answered and smirked at what he had just said. He gave her back the sandwich and ate some nuggets.
"Dave" she simply said as she didn't know what to say. She wanted him to stop. This was making her feel hotter and hotter. Her cheeks must had been pink by now.
"Okay, I'll stop" he smiled and ate some more. For the next couple of minutes they continued eating. It was just the two of them in sweaters, eating chicken nuggets and David felt the need to express his thankfulness. "Nat! Thanks"
Natalie turned to look at him. She didn't know why he was thanking her, because he paid the dinner, but she wanted to thank him too. For the past twelve years. "Thank you too"
They had eaten everything except the one chicken sandwich. "You can have it" Natalie told David feeling full from all the other food. He insisted on her eating it.
"Alright, we'll Rock Paper Scissors for it" he pulled out his phone and recorded the playing the game. For someone watching them, it might be weird, but for them it was a competition. Even though no one needed one more chicken sandwich, both of them wanted to win.
They started playing, always ending up on the same hand gesture. They would either show paper both or scissors both, or rocks.
Natalie looked him in the eye. This was strange, it was like he was in her mind, and she wouldn't want David being in her mind. "You're watching me" she complained and David looked at her little too cute smile.
They continued playing, still making the same things. Rock, scissors, rock, paper. Natalie looked at him. There was no way. What was going on? This was a sign, her hopeless romantic self thought, but couldn't say it out loud. She continued watching.
Finally, Natalie has scissors while David has paper. Scissors cut paper, Natalie had won. She had to eat the sandwich. Well, she had basically lost, since she couldn't take it. But she for sure won, knowing that, that night something was going to happen to David and her. She could feel it.
Or she was just hoping. And he was too.
