"Pagod na pagod ah." I heard Nicz said, laughing a little.
"Aren't you?" I asked.
"Konti lang." Sabi naman niya tapos tumabi na rin siya sa'kin.
I automatically placed my arm around her while she leaned her head on my chest.
"Sa traffic lang talaga, mostly." Sabi pa niya. "Pero at least nadaanan natin mga Kuya mo tapos sila Mama."
"Next year, maybe we should just get everyone together." I said.
"Eh di ba yun naman ang suggestion ko talaga? Ayaw mo naman." Sabi naman niya.
"Well, it is my first Christmas together with my wife. At least this year, I want us to celebrate na tayo muna. As a family." I told her and I saw her smile.
It's been a few months since we got married and I have to say, I've never been happier. May konting adjustments pa rin--iba talaga yung pakiramdam, yung bond when you finally tie the knot. But nonetheless, it really helped na nagkasama na kami before. Halos kabisado na namin ang isa't-isa. But then again, it feels like everyday, I discover something knew about her. And I fall in love all over again.
I'm currently in my second year residency now in Psych sa L. Olivar, while Nicz is a first year resident sa in Optha sa St. James.
Wala talagang duty sila Nicz ngayon since OPD basis naman sila (sinasalo sila ng Surgery residents sa ER), and luckily, napagbigyan naman ako ng batchmate ko sa L. Olivar since first Christmas nga namin as husband and wife.
Nagstretch naman si Nicz nun.
"I probably should start preparing for our Noche Buena."
"Huh? Di ba nagbigay naman na ng food sila Mama?" I asked.
"Okay na sa'yo yun?"
"Oo naman, tayo lang namang dalawa."
"Magpeprepare sana ako ng pancit bato..."
Napatigil naman ako dun. But I shook my head.
"Bukas na lang. Just stay here." I told her.
She smiled again. "Okay." She said, and nuzzled her head on my chest.
Naglean naman ako lalo sa sofa, feeling comfortable.
This is the life.
Yung simpleng ganito lang kami--magkasama, kahit tahimik lang kami parehas. Ang saya ko na.
"Hm. Alam ko maaga pa pero I really wanna give you my gift now."
"Mamaya na, love. Dito ka muna." I pouted.
Natawa naman siya.
"Clingy mo. Sige na. Saglit lang." Lambing naman niya.
"Fine, fine." I relented.
Cheesy na, pero to be honest, si Nicz naman na ang best gift na nabigay sa'kin. And I know naman na I'll love whatever she'll give me, simply because it's from her.
Hinayaan ko na siyang tumayo nun and I watch her go to our room. She looked excited. I had to smile.
Nakabalik din naman siya kagad. Bumalik siya sa pwesto niya against me and then handed me a paper bag.
"Merry Christmas, Love." She said.
I smiled and leaned in to kiss her.
"Merry Christmas." I told her. "Mamaya ko na ibibigay yung gift ko sa'yo."
She just nodded at that. "Buksan mo na!" She said excitedly.
I chuckled but did as I was told.
Napangiti naman ako nung nahawakan ko na. Parang alam ko na kung ano 'to.
"Pareparehas kami ng gifts nila Mama?" I asked.
She just grinned. I actually just let her choose our gifts for both our families this year. And most of them were simply picture frames.
Naisip ko naman na it probably held a memorable picture of the recepients. That would be just like her. She's very thoughtful and sentimental.
Nilabas ko na and I was right. It was a picture frame. But I was taken aback at the picture that was attached to it.
For a moment, di talaga ako nakapagsalita, just staring at it.
I looked at her, and she was laughing at me but also nodding.
Without saying anything anymore kasi di ko talaga alam kung anong sasabihin ko, I just pulled her to me and started showering her with kisses.
