He didnt care for them, they were just enemies to him. He had no attachment to them nor did he like them. He would have killed them the day he arrived if haggar didnt order him to only gain information on them. 

But then he notice her hardly ever getting a goodnight of sleep. He notice as he walked the halls after his late night training, seeing her hanger light always on. He notice she was always upgrading and fixing the ship or the lions. He notice she never asked for thanks or ever got thanked even when she fixed things and made them safer. 

He didnt know why or when it started but he always leaded on the hanger door and watched her type away or work with a sparkle in her eyes. She would always stop doing whatever she was doing when seeing him. A soft smile on her lips even when she had huge bags under her eyes. "hey" her small soft voice always spoke as she glances to him each night. 

He didnt know why or when it started but he would start to talk back. He started hanging with her as she worked. He would carry her to bed if he found her passed out. Laughing through the night, chatting about anything that pop into their mind. Sharing glances and smiles without thinking. He gotten use to their nightly meets up and was use to her cuddling up to him sometimes. 

He started watching her more during the day and during missions. Whenever she was in the room his eyes would be on our and he always listened to every word she said, even the sassy comebacks when they were being sent on deadly missions. Whenever they fought in their lions or as voltron he would make sure she was kept safe and often risk the mission to keep her in eye sight.

Then he started getting use to her always being around during their free time. 

He enjoyed her being beside him. He found her smiles adorable. He found her freckles to be cute. He found her giggle to be the best music to his ears. He found her to be beautiful. He found out he loved her. 

So when haggar sent a date for the day he should betray her and her friends, he was at a lost. He wasn't sure what to do. He didnt want to her hurt her but he couldn't just ignore haggar orders. He wanted to protect her and yet he was ordered to try and kill her and the others. 

He sat holding her close as she slept cuddle up to his chest, the night before a secret mission. The night before a trap was planned on the galra ship. The last night he might ever seen her again, the last night he might ever hold her so close. 

He gently laid a loving kiss on her lips before he laid down on his bed letting her sleep on his chest all cuddle up. Tears left his eyes as he whispered the words he feared more then anything to her.

"I love you"

Morning came and the paladins stood in their armour listening to the game plan one more time before they headed towards their lions. He glanced at her once more before they entered their lions and flew off towards the galra ship. 

Hunk and lance taking care of the galra fighter ships while he, Pidge and Keith sneak inside. Keith running towards the cells to free anyone inside while pidge and he walked to the control room. 

She notice him more tensed then normal and placed her hand on his arm smiling sweetly, letting him know they gonna be ok. He smiled back before frowning again as he knew what was waiting for them. He took her hand and held it tight as they walked down the halls and kept her slightly behind him to protect her from any danger. 

But as they turned the last corner  the galra stood waiting pointing their blasters ready to kill the small green paladin or to give an opening for him to killer her. He came to a sliding stop trying to pull her behind him but he made one mistake. 

He forgot who pidge truly was and what she was willing to do to protect those she loved. As the galra soldiers started to aim she notice more galra soldiers turn up behind them. She notice the shot being took and ran in front on him. 

She fell into his arms as she took the blast and giving him a weakly smile while he looked to her with horror.

"why" he whispered as his knees gave in making her slide down in his hold slight better as he sat.

"heh idiot" She grinned and wince slightly from the pain.

"i dont want to lose you" he whispered in fear and she bought her hand to his cheek.

"win this war and bring peace for all, i know we can win as long as we have hope" She smiled softly and looked into his eyes.

"you are my hope" he smiled gently as he looked into her eyes.

"save them" she whispered with a sweet smile, her eyes told him she knew it was a set up and knew he wasn't truly shiro.

"please" He begged.

"i love you" She whispered warmly before planting a loving kiss, tears falling from her eyes as she looked to him one last time before she fell limp in his arms.

"i love you" He whispered back with a warm smiled as his tears fell while pulling her cold body close. 

Anger filled his body and his arm turned purple, he slashed down the one who took her away from him before slashing down the rest. Yelling over the coms that its a trap before turning back to the stilled body laying where he once held her. Slowly walked over and picking her up gently before walking towards the black lion. 

He reached back to the castle and the other three paladins stood in shock before breaking down in their own tears as he walked past carrying her lifeless body. His own tears falling once again as he walked past the crying paladins and now crying alteans. 

He held no hope without her. 

But he fought to bring back peace for all and saved all those she cared for, like she wanted. 

He lived on, living the rest of his days without her. 

But 

He held no hope without her.
