"Katie" Shiro frowned as he knee down in front of the crying girl. Shiro was only eight years old and was in training to become a knight. He had smooth black hair with a tiny white stand and kind gentle grey eyes. 

"s-shiro" the princess sobbed back and hugged him, hiding her crying face into his small chest. Princess Katie was only six. She had long soft hazel hair and pretty hazel eyes. She had cute freckles over her cheeks and nose. She was short for her age but very smart for her age making other royal children make fun at her and other children bully her when she wasn't inside the castle.

Her only friend was shiro, a boy she met after pranking a couple guards. She saw him sitting on a bench near the old garden and snuck up on him. She was interested in the new boy she never saw before and filled with joy at the news of him staying at the castle training to be a knight. He was kind and gentle towards her unlike anyone else and she enjoyed hanging with him. She only met shiro a year ago but they held a strong bond already. 

"what happened Katie, why are you crying by the old tree" Shiro asked with worry as he held her tight trying to let her know she was safe. 

"t-they p-push me over and kept making fun of me. I-i fight b-back but my parents and their father entered as i slapped the prince. They y-yelled at m-me and n-now they hate me" Katie cried and shiro frowned before kissing her forehead making her stop crying.

"I'm sure your parents dont hate you Katie, why dont you go explain what happened and they tell the princes off too. I'll even wait outside for you" Shiro smiled kindly as she looked to him surprised.

"y-you'll really come with me" Katie muttered and shiro nodded.

"of course i will, we friends remember" Shiro smiled gently and stood up holding his hand out to her. 

"thank you" Katie smiled brightly and took his hand before standing.

"no worries, now lets go find the king and queen" Shiro smiled softly and the two started walking while still holding hands. 

"s-shiro, why are you my friend" Katie asked as they walked making him stop walking in shock.

"becuase i like you, why do you ask" Shiro replied confused by her question.

"but I'm a freak and I'm not pretty like other girls. Your a great boy and could have any friend you want but you stuck with a loser like me" Katie frowned. 

"your not a freak or a loser, your my best friend Katie and i think your perfect" Shiro smiled sweetly back proudly. 

"really" Katie asked unsure.

"really, your amazing to me Katie and i wouldn't want any other friend apart from you" Shiro grinned as Katie smile and hugged him.

"thank you shiro" Katie cheered. 

"one day, I'm going to become a king and i show the world just how wonderful you are Katie. Can you wait for me" Shiro smiled with pride and hope.

"i think shiro would make a great king, i know your be a good king soon" Katie smiled brightly and the two continued walking. 

The years passed making Katie train to be a better princess while shiro trained to be the strongest knight. Both sneaking out during the night to hang out under the old tree and talk together. Sometimes they would talk and laugh the night away making them half away for their training the next day. Then the time came and Katie was a well trained princess but didnt act like it most of the time and Shiro became a true knight. 

King Sam let his daughter pick her private knight who would protect her at all times and stay beside her all day. Of course it wasn't hard for Katie to chose since she was planning on picking shiro from the start. Shiro promised to give his life to her and to protect her till his last breath.

Their bond kept growing as the years passed and Katie learned to stand up for herself for against those who tried to bully her. Shiro would always stand behind her beside her in case he was needed but no one could out sassy the short princess.

But as the two got a perfectly life going while keeping their titles and still growing up they did have harsh times. Katie would get attacked or kidnapped, shiro would always find her and save her. Holding her tight in his arms once he did save her and Katie hugging him back to see him once more. But Shiro didnt save her all the time without injuries. He lost his right arm and was given a fake one since he still wanted to keep protecting Katie and fight for her. He got a scar over his nose and some over his body. Katie hated shiro getting hurt becuase of her and would always push him away but he was just as stubborn as she was and kept coming back. 

But now the princess was eighteen and shiro was twenty. A new issue came before them, the princess was to marry a prince from the glara kingdom. Prince lotor the guy who teased Katie and always got her into trouble when she would hit him back. She was going to be suck a guy wife and she hated it. She tried talking with her father but her mother kept getting in the way saying its final. Shiro was mad at the king and queen forcing Katie to marry such a horrible guy but he was only a knight. He couldn't change their minds. 

"Katie" Shiro weakly smiled as he found the princess sitting under the old tree pouting. 

"its not fair" Katie hissed and shiro sat beside.

"i know but its good for your kingdom shake" Shiro mumbled as that all the queen keeps saying and well he hated saying the words himself but that the only nearly good part of this force marriage.

"i hate princes Lotor, he a jerk who would just make my life hell forever" Katie growled.

"i know Katie and i wish i could stop this wedding but i have no power where it counts" Shiro sighed and his hands turned into a fist.

"dont blame yourself shiro, your not the one forcing me to marry that jerk. Your the only one who thinking about how i feel so thank you" Katie smiled softly and placed her hand over his fits. 

"i just wish i could help you, i wanted you to be happy and now your just going to be trapped" Shiro replied and turned to her.

"you have helped me, you saved me so many times that i lost count. You showed me kindness and joy while others only showed me pain. Your the best thing i have ever had in my life and i dont wish for you to be unhappy" Katie smiled sweetly  and looked into shiro grey eyes.

"Katie" Shiro whispered as Katie placed a hand on his cheek..

"shiro i" Katie started to say but stopped herself and looked away while pulling her hand away.

"ah sis, our parents want to see us" Matt yelled with a bright smile from the castle halls.

"i better go see why they wish to see me, see you later Shiro" Katie weakly smiled before running off.

"if only i was king" shiro muttered as he watched her run.
