Dylan: This?
Summer: I can't be with someone who's cheated on me. I just can't.
Dylan: Summer, please give me a chance.
Summer: Can we start over?
Dylan: Yes, please.
Summer: But as friends.
Dylan: Wait, friends? I can't be your friend, Summer.
Summer: And I can't be your girlfriend or fiancé it hurts too much, Dylan.
Dylan: Can you be honest with me?
Summer: You want me to be honest?
Dylan: Yeah.
Summer: Honestly, you are the first guy to ever break my heart. You're the first guy I truly loved. And before you kissed Michie, I really thought you were the one. And it hurts me to see you.
Dylan: Summer... What do you want from me?
Summer: I don't know anymore.
Jay restrained himself from marching downstairs to comfort Summer. It hurt him to see her like this. As Brian watched from the other room, he too felt helpless. He remembered the early days of Dylan & Summer's relationship & how you would often catch them in a closet or corner making out. They were in love for sure.
Dylan: Do you want me to leave?
Summer: I don't know.
Dylan: Please stop crying, Summer.
Summer handed Dylan the key necklace back by gently placing it into his hand.
Summer: I don't want us to get hurt anymore than we already are. We're both really fragile at the moment & I would hate for you to go all the way back to Washington right now. Maybe you guys can stay a day or two.
Dylan: I don't know. I don't want to impose.
Summer: And Dylan, I don't want you out of my life.
Dylan: You don't?
Summer shook her head.
Summer: I really want us to be friends.
Dylan: I'll try.
Summer: We'll both try.
Dylan: Ok.
Dylan agreed to be friends although it was a hard choice to make. He'd rather keep Summer in his life as a friend than lose her forever. Maybe as a friend he could slowly win her back. They closed the conversation with a "friendly" hug. Brian stood behind the corner & peeked from behind the wall.
Brian: Is it safe to come in?
Summer: You can come in now, Brian.
Brian: Ok. Well, you guys are hugging. This is a good sign, right?
Dylan: Yeah, it's good sign.
Summer walked out of the living room. Dylan waited for Summer to walk completely out of the room before confiding in his cousin. He grabbed Brian by the shoulders & shook him.
Dylan: It's a bad sign, Brian! A really bad sign... I can't be her friend. I'm still in love with her.
Brian: Yikes... This is turning out to be a rally weird day. And it's not even noon yet. We're on a roll!
Dylan: What am I going to do now?
Brian: Well, you have to get over her.
Dylan: I can't.
Brian: Well, then you're screwed.
Dylan: Thanks.
Brian: On the upside, we have a place to stay tonight.
Dylan: Yeah & the downside, it's here.
