"Girls' Night In"

Summer didn't want to go home alone & she could really use the company of a good friend so she invited Nat over to watch a movie to have dinner at her place. Since he had nothing else going on, Nat agreed.

Nat: So how long has your boyfriend lived in this house? It's gorgeous.
Summer: Since he graduated high school. So about 10 years.
Nat: Ugh, I cant wait 'til George & I get a house. Until then, I'll come hang out with you.
Summer: I really appreciate you coming to hang out with me.
Nat: Girl, you're doing me a favor. I'd stay home everyday if I lived here.
Summer: You're so sweet.

Summer handed Nat a bowl of popcorn & the two headed into the living room to watch a movie. Before they knew it, they were a few movies in & it was starting to get dark. The two had ordered pizza a couple hours before & had finished a whole box between the two of them. The box was on the floor along with napkins & the two were sitting on the couch in lounge wear comfortable under Sherpa blankets. Right when the movie ended, Nat realized it was getting late.

Nat: Oh gosh! What time is it?
Summer: It's 10:00.
Nat: I've overdone my stay haven't I?
Summer: No, not at all.
Nat: You sure?
Summer: Just spend the night!
Nat: Is that asking for too much?
Summer: No. Seriously Nat, just stay.
Nat: Ok, let me have my brother drop off a few things.

Nat stood up from the couch to call his brother, Nick. Summer decided to stretch & clean up.

Nat: Hey so is it ok if my brother drops by. He's just bringing me a few things from my apartment. You know all my skincare essentials I can't live without.
Summer: Yeah, of course.
Nat: Thanks for being cool about my brother & all.
Summer: What do you mean?
Nat: Well, I know he's been flirting with you.
Summer: Has he? I haven't noticed.
Nat: Oh please, Summer. The whole marine base knows it. Anyways, I've talked to him about it & he promised to leave you alone so... you won't need to worry about him.
Summer nodded & continued to clean up. Nat ran off to the restroom & the doorbell rang. It was Nick. Summer opened the door & Nick gazed at Summer as she was dressed in an open fleece jacket with short shorts.

Nick: Hey, Summer.
Summer: Hey Nick.

Nick came inside & stood in the foyer looking around.

Nick: Is Nat around?
Summer: He's in the bathroom. He'll be right out.

Nat came out of the bathroom & walked down the hall towards the foyer.

Nat: Oh finally! Thanks for bringing my stuff. You can go now. This is a girls night in.
Nick: Ok, ok. You're welcome. Bye Summer.

Nick's gaze lingered on Summer & their eyes locked, but only for a second as Summer broke the eye contact. Nick headed back out & tried starting his car & seemed to be having trouble starting it back up.

Summer: Hey, is your brother having trouble out there?
Nat: His car is a total clunker. I don't know why he still hangs on to it.
Summer: I don't think he's going anywhere tonight. Looks like he's headed back in.

Nick kicked his tires & slammed his car door out of frustration. He decided to head back in the house. Summer let him back in & Nat was annoyed that he was ruining their girls night.

Nick: Sorry to interrupt your movie night.
Nat: Ugh, you ruin everything.
Nick: I think it'd be too late for any local mechanic. I might have to call an Uber or something.

Summer felt bad that Nick would have to drive back & forth so she invited him to stay the night. It'd be fine since Nat would be there too she thought.

Summer: Why don't you stay the night?
Nat/Nick: What?
Summer: Yeah, you can borrow Jay's clothes & we have extra towels, bedding, toothpaste.
Nat: Are you out of your mind?
Summer: No.
Nat: Summer?
Summer: It's just one night. It's going to be snowing a ton out there.
Nick: No, it's fine. Really I can just Uber.
Summer: Nick, you're staying.
Nat: You stay down here. We're going upstairs.
Nick: Ok... Geez...

Nat & Summer headed upstairs. Nat took one of the guest bedrooms & Nick took the couch downstairs. Summer gathered some of the extra toiletries & clothes for Nick & brought them downstairs. Nick was laying down on the couch & the lights were turned down with only the hallway light which dimmed the living room where Nick was.

Summer: Nick?

Nick sat up & looked towards Summer's direction.

Nick: Hey, thanks for letting me stay. I'm sorry to put you out.
Summer: Not at all. You're Nat's brother & Nat's a friend so...
Nick: I'm glad you're not being awkward about this?
Summer: Why would I be awkward?
Nick: Because of my feelings for you.
Summer: Goodnight, Nick.

Nick grabbed Summer's hand.

Summer: Nick...

Nick stood up & was in front of Summer. He gently caressed her hair to tuck it behind her ear. She grabbed his hand & gently removed it from her face.

Summer: I have a boyfriend, Nick. Let's not do anything we'll both regret.

Summer walked away & went to her room.
