CHAPTER 27

JAKE'S POV

"Mom. What was that?" I asked raising my voice.

The first time I have ever raised my voice at my mom.

"You will no longer contact that girl. It is for your own good." she said.

I stared at her blankly.

"Seriously mom. She is the most wonderful person I have ever met. She is beautiful and smart and kind. You have met her only a few times. You can not judge her like that." I shouted again.

"See, she has already changed you. This is the first time you have ever raised your voice at me." she sobbed.

I sighed.

"Mom, I really like her. She doesn't have a clue why you acted like that. Neither do I." I said running my hands through my hair.

"I really like her a lot mom. She is already depressed because Adrian left school with.."

"He left school? What do you mean?" she asked panicked.

"Huh? Yeah, he left school and the country too I suppose. Why? Do you know him?" I asked curiously.

"Me? Oh no. I uh. I know his friend's father. So, would you like to have you breakfast now?" she asked changing the topic.

"You can now change the topic. But I will make one thing clear mom. If she likes me too, which I hope she would. She will be coming here often." I said running upstairs.

I plopped myself on the bed and checked my phone.

I had a text from Alexis. I smiled reading it.

I like this girl a lot. Hope she sees that and moves on from Adrian.

But if she still likes him, I would walk away if that is what she wants.

I replied telling that I was sorry on behalf of my mom and told her I would not be going to school today. And shut the phone.

Tomorrow I will be going to her place. Hope her parents are the good ones.

But I need to know why Adrian left her. Not that I am complaining but the actual reason of him not telling her too.

ALEXIS'S POV

I saw Jake's text that he would not be attending today's classes.

I went home changed and went to school.

In the lunch hour I told Brit, Nat and Dan about what happened.

"What? She doesn't even know you." Brit said munching as usual.

"I have no idea." I shrugged.

While returning home I decided to go see Maa. I have been going over to the hospital every single day and talked my heart out to her.

I don't know if she can hear me, but I am happy that she is still in a stable condition but has not recovered from her coma.

I have no clue as to how can that stupid Adrian leave Maa in such a condition.

"Hey uncle." I hugged Philip uncle.

"How are you, Sweety."

"I am doing fine." I smiled.

"So, I will come at 6 as usual." He said patting my head.

"Yes." I replied.

He always spends time with Jessy when I am with Maa. Which I think is the good thing. Because how much ever close we are to others, family's space can not be filled.

I was reading a book when uncle came back with Jess.

"Hey Lexi, I went to that restaurant I always wanted to go. But the food was not that good." She said crinkling her nose.

I laughed in response.

"See you tomorrow. Take care uncle." I hugged him and kissed Maa on her forehead and we left.

"Jess could you wait here? I will go get a cup of coffee." I said.

"I will use the washroom by that time and wait for you here." She said.

I nodded and went to the cafeteria. I was waiting for my coffee at the counter when a yawn escaped my mouth and so I turned back yawning and had a mini heart attack.

I saw someone exactly like Adrian and that person was looking at me too.

"Excuse me Mam, your order." The guy at the counter said.

I quickly took my coffee and turned to where Adrian doppelganger was standing, but as usual no one was there.

"You're probably hallucinating." I said shaking my head.

"Hey Jess. Hot chocolate for you." I handed it to her.

"Thank you so much." She said. But she seemed off.

"Anything wrong?" I asked her.

"Nope. I think it is the food. My stomach is not good." She said.

"We will go home now." I said.

"Jess, I saw someone like Adrian today." I blurted.

"Aww, is my brother's sweet little AL missing her love too much." She asked teasingly.

I smacked her arm.

And that's how most of my days go.

I was in deep sleep until, until Beth pushed me from my bed.

I groaned in pain.

"You..." I pushed her to the other side and climbed my bed.

I checked for my phone to see the time.

It was 2am. She broke my sleep.

I decided to turn off my mobile when I got a call from an unknown number.

I panicked a lot. This is how most people end up dead in horror movies.

I was in deep thinking whether to answer or not. I tried waking Beth up and hoped that the person ends the call.

"Bethhhhhh."

"What?" she pushed me away.

At the same time the call ended.

"Someone called me. It was an unknown number." I said.

"Next time he or she calls pick it. We will see who that is. For now sleep." She yawned.

Exactly at that time the phone goes off again.

I show the screen to her and she answers it.

I looked at her in horror. She signaled me to go ahead.

I spoke, "Hello? Who is this?"

"Hey"

That is when nothing mattered. I was just shocked. I could not move a muscle.

I could see Beth waving her hands all around and I could not utter a word.
