CHAPTER 7

Days flew by and it was my last day there already.

We had booked flight 5 days prior to the actual date. Jake and I had plans on a small trip to Greece and we were still going but just as friends.

He told me that he would tell me about that thing with his so-called mother.

I reached his apartment and we sat in the same way we had previously.

"Okay. So, my parents died in a plane crash, they were returning from their business tour when this happened. My grandparents took me in. My grandparents passed away when I was around 4 years and just before that Julie had been my caretaker. She then started convincing me to call her mom. I knew this all along that she wasn't my mom. But I never knew it was for my money. She actually cheated on her first husband. She has a son, who is a year elder to us. She was with him for money too. When she had the opportunity, she took away his business idea which he had created with his partner and gave to her then boyfriend. She was also having an affair; did I mention that?" he laughed.

"Seriously she could not have fallen any lower. As they say karma is a bitch. The guy whom she apparently "loved" left her after some months when the business actually profited. He married another rich lady who would give him much more wealth."

She deserved that.

"She deserved it Jake. She really did." I said.

"I know. But the family she cheated on did not. She chose the family who is probably one of the sweetest I've ever come across. You would agree to that too. They never deserved any of this." He said.

"Yes, I know." I said a little doubtful, not entirely understanding what he meant.

"Her son is Adrian, Alexis." He said holding my hand.

I sat there frozen. Did I hear him right?

As if he read my mind he confirmed with a nod.

"So, she is Uncle Philip's first wife. Then Jess is.."

"Yes. Adrian's step sister."

I cannot believe this. This is such a huge news.

I told Fahad everything. I spoke about this to uncle Philip too.

He confirmed that but never knew that her then boyfriend ditched her. He felt sad but told that if that would have not happened, he would never have met Maa.

Anyone could tell he was in love with her. He told me not to tell Jess anything and I promised him I would not. everyone knew except for Jess, Beth and me.

So, Adrian knew. I made Fahad promise me for nothing.

I told Fahad that Adrian knew it already through a text.

Faddy: I knew it too. I am sorry that we did not tell you.

Me: Wow. Thanks.

They knew, they knew it all along and never told me.

Me: DID YOU BOTH EVEN CONSIDER ME YOUR CLOSEST FRIEND? IT IS LIKE I KNOW NOTHING. YOU GUYS RUNNING AWAY, THIS, WHERE YOU GUYS ARE, WHAT YOU GUYS ARE DOING. NOTHING. NADA.

Faddy: Don't get angry. Even we knew it recently.

Me: When?

Faddy: Before we left. I mean decided to leave.

Me: Oh

Faddy: Come on, Alexis. I am sorry. You will know what is happening very soon and I hope you forgive me and Adrian especially.

Me: I don't know

Faddy: Hope you will.

I threw my phone and slept.

I had to visit Maa as this was the last day.

"Today is your last day, right?" Uncle asked.

I nodded not able to speak. He nodded and left.

"So, today is my last day here and I will be returning don't know when. But I will surely try to visit you Maa." I said kissing her hand.

"Yeah I know you will, Lexi."

Then I looked up at her and that is when I saw her eyes wide open looking at me with so many unspoken words.

I did not know what to do I started crying and hugging her.

"You're awake. Oh my god."

Her eyes started watering and then I called the nurses they pushed me out like usual and called everyone.

I texted Fahad and my friends.

They all had reached the hospital. The doctors told that maa was stable and that she would be discharged in some days after she is completely stable.

I could not thank the gods enough. I did not want uncle Philip or Jess to worry anymore. I was so happy but then realized I would be leaving today.

"Hey." Jake said.

"Jake, she woke up. I am so happy." I said hugging him and drenching his shirt with my tears.

"You know what, I feel we have to cancel the trip. You can be with her for the 5 days. I will visit too." He said and I was so grateful.

"Oh my god. I love you so much." I said kissing his cheeks and my mom was giving me weird looks while my dad completely understood.

I just rolled my eyes and let go off him while he chuckled. I went to my mom and explained her that we were never meant to be together and that we are best off as friends and that I am still not fucking over Adrian.

I am messed up bad.

That day Uncle wanted to badly stay with Maa and obviously he just lost her and after a while of catching up with maa we left.

When I reached home, I got a call from Fahad.

"Alexis, how is she?" he sounded happy.

"She is fine. The doctors told that they would keep her in observation for some days and then discharge her if she is well."

"I am so happy."

"Yeah." I replied.

"Are you okay?" he asked.

"Her eyes were searching for him Fahad. When she looked at me, I did not know what to do. I swear I could see her break. She wanted her son even though everyone were there. We both know how much she loves him." A tear threatening to escape.

"I know. We have reasons Alexis."

"Fuck that." I snapped.

"Where the fuck is Adrian? Is he near you? Is he listening to us?" I asked him hoping he would tell yes.

When he did not answer I knew that he was there.

"Adrian, I know you are there. Whatever stupid reason you have just know that it is not more important than Maa. Just visit her once. Just so you know I hate you and will not forgive you for betraying me. I hate you." My voice broke and I ended the call.

I am done with him.
