PAIGE;
It was now Saturday morning and all my nerves were setting in. Yesterday night all of us, including the football guys, went out to eat at an Italian restaurant. All us cross country runners gorged on pasta while the football guys ate pizza, just to rub it in our faces.
We didn't mind though, they complained that the pizza wasn't that great. Plus coach promised all of us pizza, so we were going to pig out after.
I walked onto the field with my fellow runners and breathed in. Every other state runner was here with their team and supporters.
I exhaled and sighed. We're actually here. We made it. A small school in a small town made it all the way to state.
I looked around and smiled.
"Silverton? Where's that?" I heard a girl ask as they passed us.
I rolled my eyes and chuckled, these people didn't know what was coming for them. I was going to make sure that we took state.
"Paige" I heard someone call out. I turned and saw my mom, "You ready for your hair?"
I smiled and nodded. This was state, that meant everyone was going to be here. And I would love to show off my culture to them.

"Varsity girl runners to the mark please," Was announced as Coach Elmore made his way over to us.
"Huddle up" He spoke as we all circled around him.
"I just wanted to say that I'm proud of every one of you and I'm not ashamed to say that I coach you wonderful ladies. This is the last meet of the season, and the first state meet our school has ever went to. I don't care if you do your best or not, just go out there and have fun. Enjoy it." Coach said while looking at all of us with an encouraging smile.
We smiled and nodded, we're definitely going to win him that state title.
"Call it Paige" he smiled at me.
"'Family' on three!" I exclaimed and raised my hand with everyone, "One. Two. Three!"
"Family!" Everyone cheered as we broke the huddle and walked towards the mark.
Once I caught sight of the line, my heart rate sped up. There was a long row of girls standing behind the line.
There were more schools than I thought.
"C'mon Paige" I told myself as I stood behind the line and tried to ignore the other schools who were so close to us.
My heart beat got so loud that I could hear it in my ears. I looked around and saw both Nevaeh and Heaven looking at me.
They both looked worried for my state, but I chose to ignore them. I will never forgive them for what they did to me.
I looked down at my necklace and smile.
Jungkook, I immediately think. That was all it took for me to calm down.
The sports announcer walked onto the field in front of us and began to talk. I ignored most of it as I focused on myself.
I breathed in, held it and breathed out.
I finally regained my senses and my heart rate went back to normal. I looked ahead and listened to the announcer.
"Teamwork, respect and responsibility" he spoke as everyone listened. It was so quiet that even the crowd was silent, that was a first for me.
"Let this competition reflect mutual respect among participants, officials and spectators. The starter is on the ladder behind you. He will blow the whistle for on your mark and he will fire a gun to start the race. When you finish you will run across all the mats and you can slow down at the end of the shoot. You will not stop at the finish line" he added as everyone took a mental note.
