Thanks for 36-38K💕

"Come on Ping!" An eight year old Lucas exclaimed while he tried to drag me out of bed.

"Lucas?" I ask, rubbing away the sleep from my eyes, "What's wrong?"

"Gramps is telling stories tonight" Lucas said while handing me a hoodie and a pair of shoes.

"But they're only meant for the grownups" I said confused but got dressed.

"We won't actually be there, we'll hide and listen. Plus it's still our birthday so we can do whatever we want with the time we have left" Lucas said while tying my shoes.

I sigh, "Okay"

I get up and follow Lucas as we sneak down the stairs and through the hallway to the backyard.

As we got outside, we could see the small bonfire with our relatives sitting around it.

"Quietly, Ping" Lucas whispered as I nodded and followed him.

Gramps had already started as Lucas and I sat with our backs against the dog house and tried to listen.

"The Navajo tribe have started out as a small tribe from the beginning. But we've always been strong. We were great warriors, skilled and smart. This enabled us to fight and protect our tribe. One day our warriors came across a creature that looked like a woman but was hard like stone and cold as ice. Our warriors fought against it but only fire would completely destroy it. They lived in fear that the cold woman was not alone. They were right"

"Our warriors we're getting popular because of the creature they fought and made a living out of killing them. Other tribes traded food for protection and this was how our tribe grew to be the largest one ever. Our warriors made a living by finding these creatures and killing them and with time their tribe grew and grew"

"But all good things had to come to an end, right?"

"What they didn't know was that the woman had a lover and he was going from tribe to tribe, hunting for the ones who killed his wife and demanded blood. He killed anyone who got in his way"

"He soon found our growing tribe and planned to take his vengeance out on our people but the tribes leader, or our great great ancestor, Chief Ryder made a deal with the blood devil"

"He promised the cold one would get blood for blood but only on certain conditions. Ten years from now the blood demon will emerge and will demand his blood"

"We have to be ready when that time comes and protect our people, we have to protect Pai-"

I sneezed and rubbed my nose as Lucas smiled and handed me a tissue.

"Bless you" I heard.

"Thank you" I responded but froze when I noticed the voice didn't belong to Lucas.

Lucas and I immediately grabbed onto each other and looked up to see our father peering down at us.

"Hey dad" Lucas and I smiled innocently at him. He smiled and walked around to face us.

"You know it's way past your bed time, right?" He asks while squatting down to pick us both up.

Lucas and I sighed in defeat that we didn't get to hear the end of gramps' story but we both know we wouldn't remember it the following morning.

I felt my eyes getting heavier as I pressed my cheeks against my dads shoulder. Before my eyes closed, I saw gramps staring at me from his spot.
