49: Dilation and Curettage (Revised)

Dilation and curettage (D&C) is a surgical procedure in which the cervix is opened (dilated) and a thin instrument is inserted into the uterus. This instrument is used to remove tissue from the inside of the uterus (curettage). D&C is used to diagnose and treat many conditions that affect the uterus, such as abnormal bleeding. A D&C also may be done after a miscarriage. A sample of tissue from inside the uterus can be viewed under a microscope to tell whether any cells are abnormal. A D&C may be done with other procedures, such as hysteroscopy, in which a thin, lighted telescope is used to view the inside of the uterus.

"Are you sure about this?" Pang ilang beses na ba niyang tinanong sa akin kung sigurado na ba ako sa emergency resignation ko. I need to rest for the sake of the baby. Uuwi na lang muna ako sa Pilipinas para makalayo sa stress. But first, I need to tell the baby daddy about the baby of course.

"Take a chill pill, kuya. Hindi pa naman ito effective immediately. May two weeks pa before my last day of work."

I clicked on submit and formally filed my resignation in the employee portal of the hospital. I printed out my resignation letter and took a folder from the drawer where I could keep my letter. Kung di pa ako titigil sa pagtatrabaho, baka tuluyan nang mawala ang anak ko. I don't really think it's the work that gives me stress, it's the stressful environment in the facility itself dahil stressed ako sa mga tao paligid ko and that is the reason why I need to switch to a more relaxed environment.

I stood up and took my coat before looping my right arm with Jake's left arm. Sabay na kaming papasok sa ospital since pareho naman kami ngayon ng shift. We are both in the afternoon shift today kaya sabay na rin kaming uuwi mamayang alas dose ng gabi. After 15 minutes, we arrived in the hospital, thankfully without any accidents. Nakaakbay siya sa akin nang pumasok kami sa ospital at nag-log in sa biometric machine sa lobby while people were just staring at us dahil mukha kaming ewan na nagpi-PDA.

"You could pass off as lovers if I didn't know you two were cousins", sabad ni Jennifer nang maihatid ako ni Jake sa ward. Ngumiti lang ako dahil alam kong totoo ang sinasabi niya. Again, she is in the same shift as me. Nasisiguro kong may kinalaman si Jake sa pagkakaayos ng rotation kaya palaging pinapares sa akin si Jennifer ay para may bantay ako.

I hugged Jen tight and she stilled from the act.

"Dr. Kaneda, you are creeping me out. What's wrong?" Nagsimula na akong maluha kahit wala pa man din akong sinasabi.

"I'm leaving. I already filed my resignation and I am sure that witch will approve it. She wants to get rid of me, right? I will go back to the Philippines and rest until I deliver the baby. I will come back after two years. I will miss you Jen." She hugged me back and rubbed my back. Nakasimangot na rin siya at alam kong pinipigilan na rin niyang umiyak kagaya ko.

"You will be fine. You will be a great mom. Always call me on skype, An. Don't you dare hide from me or you will not get invited once I get married!" Biniro pa niya ako habang nagyayakapan kami.

"You witch. You don't even have a boyfriend!" Asar talo. Eh sa wala naman kasi talaga siyang boyfriend right this time. Inirapan niya ako at [pabirong sinabunutan. Nagsimula na kaming magtrabaho at paalis-alis ako ng ward dahil sa mga tawag sa A&E at sa ibang cases na kailangan kong tignan. I will assist emergency surgeries today because all of the elective surgeries were divided to other residents.

Dalawang araw ko na ring hindi nakikita si Terrence, sa bahay man o dito sa ospital. I do miss him but I am relieved that I a haven't seen him for some time because I don't know how to face him right now. Minsan talaga wala sa oras kung bumukas yung spillway ng dam sa mata ko at kusa na lang may nadedevelop na waterfalls. I wonder where he is and how he's doing. Marami pa naman kaming kailangang pag-usapan bago ako umalis.
