Congestive heart failure (CHF) is a chronic progressive condition that affects the pumping power of your heart muscles. While often referred to simply as “heart failure,” CHF specifically refers to the stage in which fluid builds up around the heart and causes it to pump inefficiently.

You have four heart chambers. The upper half of your heart has two atria, and the lower half of your heart has two ventricles. The ventricles pump blood to your body’s organs and tissues, and the atria receive blood from your body as it circulates back from the rest of your body.

CHF develops when your ventricles can’t pump enough blood volume to the body. Eventually, blood and other fluids can back up inside your lungs, abdomen, liver and lower body

"Terrence, where are you?" My mom asked me from the other line.

"Mom, I'm at work. Didn't I give you a copy of my work schedule so you know when to NOT bug me?" Hawak ko ang cellphone ko sa kaliwang kamay ko habang nagsusulat sa chart gamit ang kanang kamay. I could hear the nurses laughing beside me.

"Okay, sorry na! I just wanted to ask if you could come over tonight? Your dad's here for a two-week vacation before we go back to Oslo together. Bring some friends, will you? I don't want to hear you and your dad talk about work over dinner."

"You do know that we are in the Philippines and my friends are back in Oslo, mom. Sino naman ang dadalhin ko?"

"Oh you dimwit. Bring Anrie of course! Bring Jeff! Bring some nurses who are free! Everybody is welcome! I paid for catering!" Kaya naman pala gusto niyang magdala ako ng mga kasama dahil marami siyang ipinahanda.

"Yes mom." I sighed and faced the nurses. "So, who wants to grab some food at my mom's place? May handa sa bahay. Everyone's welcome."

It was an automatic  response for almost all of them na karamihan ay gustong sumama out of curiosity and the free food as well. It was almost 4 pm when I clocked out at saka ko lang napansin na hindi pa nakikita ang anino ni An matapos ang lunch break.

Where is that girl?

I took my bag from my locker and asked one of the nurses at the station, "Have you seen An?"

"Nakauwi na kanina pa si doc."

It's a sunny Thursday afternoon, a good day to run your errands and have a long walk and the woman in question slid off like an eel. San na naman kaya yung nagsusuot?

"Asan na  kaya yung babaeng yun?" I asked more to myself but the nurse heard it.

"Nasa KFR doc. Search mo na lang sa GPS ng kotse mo mahahanap mo agad yun. Just call her before going at ayaw niya ng pasulpot-sulpot baka masinghalan ka pa." She chuckled after saying that.

At ano naman yung KFR?

I opened my phone and tried to call my mother. Sinubukan ko namang ipaintindi sa kanya na wala si An at may lakad siyang pinuntahan pero mapilit si mom. She said An would never say no to her and I should tell An that it was her who wanted An to come over. Damn it ginawa pa akong messenger.

I tried to call An pero wala ring sumasagot. Calls kept going to the voice mail. Even my text messages fell on deaf ears and blind eyes. The only thing I could do was to get in my car and look for that place which is called KFR. I toggled through navigation and drove my car to An's current whereabouts.

I was surprised when I got down from my car and saw the signage in front of the small building.
