"I swear to you, Mother, they will pay for what they've done today. I will end the Jotun threat, now and forever!" it was Loki's voice but it didn't sound so appealing. It didn't sound like him. Nyx knew the tone in his voice was something much darker than anyone wanted to admit and she hated herself for not realizing it sooner. Instead she was so caught up in what was bothering her and it drove him away.
Nyx was the one to open the open with fierce intensity, staring at Loki who even shocked was too proud to have slain the thing laying beside Odin's bedside. Nyx couldn't notice anything but Frigga getting to her feet, a sword behind her on the ground and a shaken expression on her face. It was the first time Nyx had seen her in a week. It was different being away, in a completely different realm, slaying the monsters only they had the capability to destroy. But being within the same palace as her, it hurt just a little more.
Nyx didn't care how badly the love of her mother's life was, she should have come forward and taken over the kingdom. Just as a wife, and a royal queen should. But she never did. She bowed to Odin and thought of only him and herself, like nothing else was diminishing. Nyx disliked that trait in a women. She could never understand how a woman could bow and beg and surrender because a man told her to do so. She loved her mother dearly, but she did not fight for Asgard, instead she weeped for the king.
"Nyx? Thor?!" Frigga was seen with tears in her eyes. She moved to gather Thor into her arms but Thor refused to break eye contact with Loki. Nyx turned and saw the beautiful disaster staring back at Mjolnir with hatred in his eyes. Nyx felt herself ache to reach for him and just hold him, but he was someone else. He wasn't himself. She didn't think it was even him a few hours ago in her own bed.
"Found its way back to you, didn't it?" Loki mustered, eyeing Thor up and down as he resented his glory and succession in simply showing up, while Loki stayed and killed Asgard's biggest threat. No one would even bat an eye in his direction when Thor shows up with Mjolnir and gets praised for simply breathing.
"No thanks to you" Thor's voice bounced off the walls of the room with rage, hating Loki for what he did. Frigga noticed the harshness in her sons words and pulled away from Thor, looking up, then turning to meet Loki's harsh gaze towards Thor. "What?".
"Why don't you tell her?" Thor spat back, smiling sarcastically and restraining from putting a single hand on the smaller man before him. "How you sent the Destroyer to kill your friends? To kill me!".
Nyx was confused. Her skin went cold and she could feel every prickling alarm riding up her body. She remained silent, not on purpose but because her throat was throbbing and she didn't think she could muster any words with so much going on. Loki wasn't even acknowledging Nyx was in the room, he just flared with anger and dreary hate.
"It must have been enforcing Father's last command" Loki lied snakily.
Thor rumbled, "You're a talented liar, Brother. Always have been."
"It's good to have you back" Loki smiled mischievously. Then, his facial expression fell without an ounce of hesitation and he glared now at Thor. "Now if you'll excuse me. I have to destroy Jotunheim".
With that, Gungnir appeared from behind Loki and was pointed at Thor.
"Loki, no!" Nyx screamed, running towards Thor but not making it to him in time. Fear was replaced with aggravation as Loki acted out, blasting Thor through the wall and throwing him back several meters away.
Loki turned at the sound of Nyx's voice and eased, Gungnir going limp in his hands and his shoulder slumping beside him. Nyx didn't know what to do. She didn't know if she should aid her brother, mother, or the God of Mischief. She stalked towards him with hesitance. She was utterly confused and that made it nearly impossible to figure out what the right thing was to do.
