Seconds later they collided with the great wooden gate at a high speed, hitting the centre of it as it was its weakest point. They all braced for the impact as the van burst through, it's poor frame struggling to stay intact at the force. Splintering crunches and clatters filled the air as the RV succeeded in getting completely through the closed gate, shattering the structure almost entirely. Hoseok had driven full-force through the gate, and wasn't intending on slowing down until they were out of sight of the camp.

"I think... we lost them." Yoongi said through heavy breaths, slumping against the back seats of the RV and relaxing a little as the vehicle steadied itself and continued at a quick pace along the dirt road. Three of them simultaneously released a relieved sigh, but Hobi was still clutching the steering wheel tightly, his eyes unblinking. Leanne noticed this and put a comforting hand on his shoulder.
"You did it Hopie, you can relax now." She said softly, and Hoseok let go of the air that he had held in his chest for the past couple of minutes.

"Yeah, good job Hoseok. Now, would anyone care to explain what the fuck is going on?" Yoongi said, his voice somewhat hysterical, and Jungkook chuckled and held out his free hand to shake the stranger's, wincing slightly as the motion of leaning forwards provoked a sharp pain in his side.
"Jungkook." He introduced himself, and Yoongi side-eyed him as he slowly shook his hand in return.
"Yoongi. Are you the one who's gonna explain what the hell happened then?" Yoongi said with a certain bitterness, and Jungkook pinched the bridge of his nose.

Leanne, on the other hand, was not only shocked but also happy and relieved that the youngest was still alive, let alone with them once again.
"I'd like to know too, but it's nice to see you again, Jungkook." Leanne said, turning to Jungkook from the front with a smile, and Jungkook returned it. Yet his expression suddenly turned to once of pain as the RV jolted a little over a bump, and he groaned at the burning feeling in his side. Yoongi, who was sitting across from him, widened his eyes at the sight.
"Oh god, you're bleeding!" He gasped, and Jungkook rolled his eyes.
"Oh really? Care to notice?" He mumbled, and Yoongi frowned.

"Drop the sarcasm, kid." The mint-haired male growled with his usual intimidating glare, and Hoseok smirked from the front.
"He's the squad leader you know, show some respect." Hobi laughed, and Jungkook cocked an eyebrow and chuckled a little at Yoongi's shocked expression.
"This kid is a squad leader?! You've got to be pulling my leg." He mumbled, and Jungkook simply shrugged.
"I've been professionally trained, so I guess you could say that I have my strengths."

"I managed to save some supplies, like clothes, food, and the last sanberries, but we're really low on medical stuff." Leanne said with a frown, and Hoseok nodded to the back where the new med kits were, earning a happy nudge from Leanne.
"Wait, you guys actually have sanberries?" Jungkook asked, impressed. Hoseok nodded, yet kept his eyes trained on the dirt road in front.
"Yeah, but we're running dangerously low. Why do you sound so surprised?" He asked.

"Because South Camp hasn't been able to acquire any for weeks! We think rebel groups are scavenging for them and taking them all." Jungkook said, and Yoongi scowled.
"Rebel groups are all bad news." He growled, the others humming in agreement. Leanne stood up from the front, grabbing a med kit and walking over to Jungkook, before patting ones of the backseats.
"Sit up here Jungkook. I'm not a professional medic, but I know a thing or two about first aid." She said with a smile, and Jungkook nodded to her as permission for her to treat him.

He lifted his shirt up slightly, seeing the pity in Leanne's eyes as she saw his wound.
"My god! People really are barbaric these days." She exclaimed, muttering a few sorry's when Jungkook hissed as she dabbed a sterile solution on his stab wound and cleaned it.
"Tell me about it." Jungkook groaned.
"Why did they do that to you? You were on the same team, no?" Yoongi asked, a noticeable hint of concern weaved into his words.

Jungkook ran his fingers along a faint bruise on his neck that had formed when his squad members had grabbed him, and shuddered as he thought back to the previous night's events.
"I'm the leader of South Camp's protection squad. Well... I was." Jungkook began, his words trailing off slightly as his lips dipped into a frown.

"We we're patrolling the area in search for supplies, when a cluster came out from the nearby woods, and a big one at that. Borgs and Cynoids completely surrounded our van, but broke off into two groups. When we got out to fight them, I got separated from the rest of my squad as I tried to fight off the part of the cluster that was targeting me. I could hear them screaming for me to help them and shoot the heptoids... b-but there was too many. We barely got out of there alive, and our last two sanberries had to be used on a squad member. They... they blamed it all on me, and I probably deserved it." Jungkook explained, a mixture of sadness, anger and guilt in his eyes as he spoke.

The others stayed silent as they listened to him talk, the only other sound being the hum of the van's engine as it trundled along the road.
"I didn't mean for it to happen I swear!" Jungkook exclaimed in slight distress as he got lost in his thoughts, his voice breaking a little, and Leanne sat back and looked at him with a frown once she'd bandaged his torso.
"Kid, it's okay. That sounds awful." Yoongi said quietly, not only shocking the others but himself at his soft tone.

"Yeah, you did only what you could, don't beat yourself up about it." Hobi piped up from the front, the others nodding.
"I still can't believe they would torture you like this though. It's animalistic." Leanne sighed, standing up with a sad frown and walking back to the front passenger seat.
"I'm just glad that they didn't do worse; it's South Camp after all. They threatened to shoot me on the spot." Jungkook breathed, leaving the others in shock at the idea.
"You're lucky the stab wound isn't that deep. The world is so twisted now. I say this a lot but I wish that impact day had never happened." Leanne said with a sad and non-humorous chuckle.

Yoongi leant his head against the van wall and twirled his gun in his hand.
"The amount of things that we took for granted back then, and now we're not even living. Humanity isn't even living. We're just surviving; surviving a nightmare."
Yoongis words resonated with all of them, making them really think about what life could have been like if asteroid Ida had never collided with the earth in the first place.

"Dang bro... that was deep. Well, I suppose everything happens for a reason." Hoseok said, and Leanne gasped at a thought.
"We didn't even pick up any ammo! And we only have melee weapons. What do we do?" She said, worry evident in her features as Hoseok furrowed his eyebrows and pursed his lips into a thin line.
"You have everything you need in here." Jungkook, who had been silent until now, piped up from the back.

Yoongi gave him a puzzled expression, and Jungkook signalled to a couple of boxes that lay within the van, and the compartments.
"The RV is filled with equipment and supplies. It's my squad's van; you have everything you could possibly need for now. What's theirs is yours." Jungkook said, and Hoseok smiled a little to himself.
"Look at us and our little squad." Hoseok chuckled, and the others all gave different reactions to that statement. You can guess who gave a disgusted look and rolled his eyes.

"We need to disguise the van as soon as we can, so that South Camp doesn't recognise us. We're basically all fugitives now. Well, at least Jungkook and I are." Hoseok muttered, taking a hand off of the wheel to run it through his fading orange locks.
"There's some spray paint cans in the back. My squad used them to trade with rebel gangs if we were to encounter them, considering they always have a thirst for vandalism of abandoned property." Jungkook mentioned with a chuckle, and all four of them felt like they were somewhat organised for now.
"So, now what?" Yoongi asked, and Hobi shrugged.

"Now we survive."
