*cue weird dance move*Jimin dragged Yuri safely onto the grass, laying her down as Leanne stayed by his side to tend to her. Most of them were now on the safety of land, shivering from the intense cold, but they knew they needed to get far away to be truly out of danger. Hoseok had just pulled Jin out of the water when he heard Yoongi's cry, eyes widening as he saw the scene unfold in front of him.
"Oh no... Yoongi." He said under his breath, immediately jumping back into the water when he saw what Yoongi was looking at.He watched, heartbroken, as Yoongi tried to scramble back the other way to his dog's lifeless body, even though they all knew that staying in the water any longer was a death sentence. The aquoid could decide it was still hungry and come back, or hypothermia would likely kick in.
"No!" Yoongi screamed, those who were on the bank watching with heavy hearts as Hoseok quickly waded out to Yoongi, grabbing one of the older's stiff arms."Yoongi, I'm so sorry, but you've gotta let her go. We need to get you back to land quickly. Please, Yoongi, let her go." Hoseok said in a voice as soft as he could muster, but even his words were shaking a little as Yoongi writhed in his grip, panic and denial completely swallowing him.
"No! She can't be! She was just there! I swear... I... I s-swear-" Yoongi screamed, before his feelings took over, his body falling limp as Hoseok quickly dragged him to the side. Jungkook immediately bent down to help get Yoongi out of the water, before helping Hoseok himself get to safety.Yoongi's face was pale and blank; his body was shivering but his face was still, void of any emotion, and it scared Hoseok to death. Hoseok sat on the grass, pulling Yoongi's trembling and wet body against his own as he couldn't imagine what the other must have been feeling. Why did this have to happen? Kwan was so important to Yoongi, and for her to be gone in the blink of an eye... it was incomprehensible.
"T-towel. C-can someone please g-get a towel from the bags for me." Hoseok stuttered, trying hard to hold back his tears as the others looked down at Yoongi with so much concern and sadness. Even Yuri was crying, not at the pain of her now-conscious body but at what she had just witnessed. Namjoon was the one who ran over with a towel, handing it to Hoseok who quickly wrapped it around Yoongi's shaking form before bringing him back into his arms. Yoongi didn't even flinch or move at the action, he just stared at the ground as if he wasn't present, unblinking. His skin had gone from light and warm to pale and ashen in an instant, looking almost ghostlike. But Hoseok swallowed thickly as he tilted Yoongi's face up, gently brushing the wet hair from his eyes as he shook his head sorrowfully.
"Yoongi... I-I'm so sorry." Hoseok whispered, and that's when he broke. The emotional pain that had been building up started to flow out of the police officer, a choked sob creeping up his throat as he covered his face with his hands. Yoongi couldn't care less if people saw him acting weak in front of them; he couldn't think of anything apart from the fact that his best friend was no longer with him. Kwan was so sweet, he couldn't help but want to scream at the universe because she didn't deserve this.
She had been taken from him in such a cruel and unforgiving way that he couldn't believe it, didn't want to believe it, but was forced to believe it. He gripped onto Hoseok's wet shirt, sobbing brokenly into the crook of his neck as the orange-haired male just held him tighter.
"I hate t-them so m-much." Yoongi cried angrily between his sobs, clutching tighter onto the only other person that he'd learnt to trust."It's okay. It's all gonna be okay. I-I'm so sorry, Yoongi." Hoseok reassured, trying hard not to cry as well as he knew it wouldn't help anyone. Thee whole atmosphere surrounding the group was now solemn and quiet, everyone spaced out across the grass as they all tried to process everything. Jungkook turned his head slowly from the two, and then walked over to Taehyung who was standing off to the side with a pained expression after he saw what had happened. Jungkook gave him a sad smile, but Taehyung failed to return it, a look of anger overcoming his features.
"What do we do? People do anything for fucking power these days... it's like morals don't exist! What am I not getting here?!" Taehyung shouted with a humourless and almost maniacal laugh, turning away from Jungkook and bringing a hand to his face as he stared out at the open water. Taehyung felt a hand on his shoulder, immediately shrugging it off harshly, causing Jungkook to frown.
"Why the fuck am I even here?" He heard Taehyung say under his breath, looking at the older male with concern.
"Taehyung..." Jungkook began, but the brunette didn't let him continue, raising a hand and waving him off."I'm fine, Jungkook, just... go and comfort Yoongi or Yuri or- I don't know... someone. Just give me a moment." Taehyung mumbled, Jungkook tilting his head at this. He reluctantly walked away front the older, deciding that he needed a moment alone and he clearly wanted space, so he was obviously gonna respect that, despite how it made him feel like everything was going to shambles. Nobody wanted to approach Yoongi because they didn't want to make the situation worse and cause him to panic with all of the attention, so after checking on Namjoon and Jin, Jungkook quickly made his way over to Jimin who had an exhausted Yuri leaning against him.
"Are you okay?" Jungkook asked the blonde-haired girl, handing the bags of warm clothing to them so that they could change out of their cold and wet ones as soon as possible.
"Just about." Yuri replied weakly, Jungkook offering her a small smile before turning to Jimin.
"She has a nasty bruise on her back, probably aches like hell, but other than the exhaustion I think everything else is intact." Jimin said with a dramatic sigh, kissing the side of Yuri's head which caused a giggle to escape her."I'm fine Chim, seriously. All fingers and toes attached." She reassured, chuckling while Jimin continued to fuss over her.
"That's a relief. I think we'll set up camp here for the night. None of us are really in any state to continue travelling right now, so I think it's best if we rest up." Jungkook said, signalling towards Yoongi and Hoseok who sat further down the bank. Jimin nodded with a sad expression, casting his eyes back out to the contrastingly still waters that would deceive anyone who didn't know the dangers."Nice work back there by the way, that was quick thinking." Jungkook said to Jimin, who just shrugged as Yuri released another quiet chuckle.
"I'll say. I'd be dead otherwise." She replied, her voice trailing off towards the end, so Jimin wrapped an arm around her.
"It's all good here. I can't be saying the same for Yoongi though... it's such a shame. I really hope he'll be okay." Jimin said sadly, Jungkook nodding and turning to look at Yoongi who was still slumped against Hoseok, physically and emotionally exhausted."For now, Namjoon and I will set up the tents and a fire. You two make sure you get warm." Jungkook said, earning grateful nods as he stood up and went back to the dinghy that had been pulled ashore, still stuffed with equipment and bags.
Needless to say, this was going to be a very long night.
