Chapter 30

"I would have said that those with guns have an advantage and should advance first, but after having seen you guys fight, I believe I'd be wrong." Jungkook said with a chuckle, Hoseok proudly holding his axe up.
"So, we need a distraction then, and it's gotta be loud. Any ideas?" Jimin asked, and Jungkook nodded at his words.
"It'll be dangerous, but I'll handle the distraction. I have an idea. The moment you see them start to move away, I want Jimin, Yuri, Leanne and Hoseok to escort Namjoon to the van. Taehyung and Yoongi will stay further back to cover you guys just incase." Jungkook said, all of them nodding but one.

"Jungkook, just because you're squad leader doesn't mean that you have to give yourself the most dangerous job. We can work something else out, I'm sure." Taehyung said with a hint of worry, but Jungkook sighed and made eye contact with him.
"I have made a decision, now please follow my instructions." He said in an adamant tone, and although Taehyung wanted to protest, he knew that there was no winning an argument against the younger. He stepped back and nodded reluctantly, standing alongside Yoongi as the two of them raised their weapons.
"Okay, when you're ready."

Jungkook gave a nod to the squad, before running off into the woods, the others somewhat puzzled at what he was going to do.
"He never really would explain much." Jimin said with a sigh, whipping and arrow out of the quiver that he had taken from the camp's store.
"Come on guys, let's do this." Leanne said with a determined smile, and the group of them started walking slowly in the direction of the surrounded van.

They made sure to stay out of earshot of the draths as they neared their destination, closer and closer with each footstep as they waited for Jungkook to initiate his plan. However, Namjoon had made it clear that the monstrous creatures were extremely sensitive to sound, so they were forced to tread lightly and advance at a painfully slow pace.
"Aim for the head, right?" Taehyung clarified, Yoongi nodding from beside him as they took their position closer to the far side of the woods.
"Yeah. I hope you're a good shot." Yoongi scoffed, and Taehyung narrowed his eyes.
"I am when I have to be."

That's when it happened. The sound of a loud explosion erupting deep in the woods made all of them snap their heads in the direction of it with wide eyes.
"He did not..." Jimin said under his breath, Hoseok blinking a couple of times.
"Oh yes he did. But it seems to have done the trick. Look." The orange haired male stated, causing the rest of them to cast their gaze back down to the precious van and the aliens. Like a swarm of bees, almost all of the draths released a piercing screech and began bolting in the direction of the woods, leaving the van to be only guarded by a few.

"That's the signal, go!" Namjoon announced, the group of five running across the grass as Taehyung and Yoongi stayed back. Jimin, Yuri, Hoseok and Leanne surrounded Namjoon, making him the priority as he was the only one who could enter and start the van. Taehyung watched with wide eyes at the aliens that were disappearing into the woods, panic flooding his mind as he wondered how Jungkook would escape.

The draths were fast. And he wouldn't have been surprised if Jungkook hadn't realised that yet.

"Shit shit shit... we can't just leave him to fight them himself! I know he's strong but there's no way he's winning that fight." Taehyung hissed under his breath, and Yoongi gritted his teeth as Taehyung's words sunk in.
"I don't know Taehyung. Let's just stick to the plan for now, we've got to cover the others, but I can't help but feel that you're right." Yoongi mumbled, Taehyung groaning as he held his rifle readily upwards.

Meanwhile, Jimin was the first to get noticed by a nearby drath, a lace of curses leaving his lips as a clicking sound and a screech signalled that he'd already been spotted. Jimin may have been at least thirty metres from the van, but it was easy to underestimate the terrifying hearing abilities and speed of the draths as two of the humanoid creatures came sprinting towards him relentlessly.

"Jimin, look out!" Leanne shouted from behind him, the blond only now noticing that there was a third drath running at him from the side.
He stopped in his tracks, quickly pulling an arrow into his bow and lodging it straight into one of the alien's skulls with incredible precision. But he wasn't quick enough, and they other two aliens were quickly closing in on his vulnerable frame.

"A little help?!" He called out, not having to wait three seconds longer as Hoseok ran to his aid, battling the drath that was running from the side with a swing of his axe. The blade penetrated the thick skin of the drath, a petrifying scream being heard from the creature as crimson blood flowed from the wound in its chest. The moment it's body slumped heavily to the ground, Hoseok thought he could move on, when the cracking of bones and a low groan made him spin back around, his eyes widening as the wounded alien got up once more.

"My God! These things are strong." Hoseok exclaimed, only just avoiding his attacker's biting teeth by plunging his axe blade into its skull, finally killing it. By now, all five of them were preoccupied with the aliens, Yoongi and Taehyung shooting from afar the draths that had deviated from the group and wandered back out of the woods. Jimin didn't have time to prepare another arrow for the third drath, the creature taking advantage of this and running straight into him.

Jimin grunted in pain as his back collided with the floor, trying to stay calm and think rationally as he used both of his hands on the humanoid's chest to prevent the creature from biting him as its teeth got closer and closer to the exposed flash of his neck. Forgetting Namjoon's warning, he looked directly into the creatures eye, and was brought into some form of trance immediately after he noticed the black orb flash red. The creature seemed to shape shift on top of him, his eyes widening and panic taking over him as the drath was no longer the one pinning him down, but his girlfriend was.

"Oh no. I... I can't hit Yuri." Jimin said, not wanting to hurt the figure even though he consciously knew what it's intentions were.
"But I can."
The creature shape shifted back into its ugly form the moment blood began to drip down its weakening frame, Jimin managing to kick its limp body off of him, looking up to see his real girlfriend holding bloody daggers above him.
"Thanks." Jimin muttered, allowing Yuri to help him up and quickly gathering his bearings as they stood back to back protectively.

"Namjoon is with Leanne going to the van. We just need to cover their backs from these last few." Yuri explained, Jimin swallowing thickly as he nodded at her words. Knowing that it was a possibility for the rest of the cluster to hear the commotion and come running back out of the woods, Hoseok turned to look in the distance at Yoongi and Taehyung to tell them to hold back on the firing due to the noise. But his brows furrowed as he could see only one figure, and he was running towards them with a half-worried half-frustrated expression.

"Yoongi?! Where's Taehyung?"
