Chapter 11

"Yo! Everyone get your damn asses up, we've got a situation!" Hobi bellowed in the middle of the night, waking all three of the others who lay asleep in the van.
"That can't be good." Jungkook muttered, rubbing the sleep from his eyes in an instant and leaping up. He quickly swept a pistol from a drawer under the couch, signalling for the others to follow him outside as they had come over beside him, weapons in hand. Leanne warned Jungkook to be careful because of his injury, but he insisted that he was fine as they ran to the door. Yoongi made sure to order Kwan to stay put, not wanting her to get involved in the danger that would await them. The dog seemed reluctant, but she was forced to obey as the RV door was shut.

"Goddammit... HURRY!" Hoseok shouted, and they were all outside in a second, six eyes widening simultaneously at what they saw. Hoseok was standing atop the RV in his defensive stance, axe held above his head as over five cynoids circled the air above them.
"Not good." Yoongi said under his breath, and Jungkook bent down in front of him.
"We need to get up there to help. Use me." Jungkook said, and Yoongi obliged, stepping on Jungkook as the younger lifted him up.
Once Yoongi was up, he stood back to back with Hoseok, gun raised up at the black shadows that glided above. All four of them knew how fast cynoids were, and they all had the knowledge that the bat-like creatures could swoop down like deadly daggers in a split second.

"Hobi, take this. You really need it right now." Yoongi said, pulling a spare pistol from his belt and holding it behind himself for Hoseok. But when the other didn't take it, he groaned and shook it slightly.
"Hoseok I swear to God, you're likely to have more luck with a gun." Yoongi said, an edge of frustration in his voice, but the other just shuffled a little and bit his lip, still holding his axe up.

"I... I- er... I've never shot a gun." Hobi mumbled, and Yoongi widened his eyes and chucked the gun to Leanne instead, who had joined them soon after with Jungkook.
"You've got to be kidding me." The mint-haired man groaned, pressing his back against Hoseok's as the four of them stood in a protective circle.
"Do not take your eyes off of them. You need to be ready when they dive." Jungkook said through gritted teeth, the others nodding to their squad leader as they pointed their weapons upwards.
"Let's do this." Leanne breathed, pistol clasped tightly between her thin fingers.

A petrifying and ear-splitting screech was heard from above them, a single pair of red eyes visible through the clearing of the trees. As if on instinct, the aliens all came down at once, terrifying sounds leaving their sharply equipped mouths as they dived for an attack.
"Now!" Jungkook shouted, shooting his gun at the first dark creature that decided to close down on their forms. A direct headshot penetrated the cynoid's skull, causing the large black creature to fall limply to the ground, black blood splattering everywhere.

There were more than they thought, at least seven more swooping down from the dark abyss that was the sky. As the others focused on the creatures that were flying above, Yoongi was quick to notice a telltale clicking sound coming from within the trees. He span his head in the direction of the noise, only just managing to make out two black figures that hung upside down from large branches, hiding in the confine of the shadowed trees.
"You can't hide from me." Yoongi growled, holding his gun up to them and closing one eye as he aimed.

A bullet left the barrel at rocket speed, piercing through the scales of one of the cynoid's chests, leaving it to screech and fall to the floor in a defeated heap. Yet before he had time to raise his gun to the other alien, two red eyes glared back at him, it's intention to kill all the more evident as it flew towards him and caught him completely off guard.
"Fuck!" Yoongi shouted, not managing to aim at the monster that twirled as it swooped towards him, and he ducked and flung his arms over his head.
"Yoongi watch out!"
