Knowing that there was no use carrying on looking for sanberries, they decided to start their journey to East Camp a little earlier as it hadn't even hit noon yet. As they began making their way across the loose rock and up the valley, Jungkook noticed that Taehyung wasn't keeping up with them and turned back around with a frown. He saw that the older male was struggling to walk across the uneven surface, an expression of pain etched onto his face as he limped from behind.
Jungkook jogged over to his side, taking one of Taehyung's arms and hooking it over his shoulders for support.
"Thanks." Taehyung breathily chuckled, allowing the younger to help him walk. This would have been a whole lot harder if they were different heights, so Taehyung was certainly thankful for that.
"You okay?" Jungkook asked, and Taehyung grimaced but nodded.
"Yeah, it's just a sprain I think, could be worse." He said, a painful burning sensation appearing in his ankle every time he stepped on it. Jungkook placed an arm around the other's waist to further assist him, not missing the small smirk that overcame Taehyung's lips for a split second as he did so."So, what are your plans then?" Taehyung asked Jungkook, who shrugged as they slowly made their way over to the RV.
"We've devised a route through the edge of the city to reach East Camp where we hope to meet some travelling researchers and offer our services." Jungkook explained, Taehyung furrowing his eyebrows slightly at the information."Travelling researchers? Would that be the Kim's by any chance?" He asked, and Jungkook tilted his head towards him.
"The Kim's?" He questioned, and Taehyung laughed a little.
"Yes, the Kim's. My God Jungkook, they're only the most famous current travelling researchers in Korea! They seem to know more about aliens than anyone. But despite that, they tend to keep everything top secret." Taehyung said, and Jungkook raised his eyebrows. If this scientist duo were as famous as Taehyung made them out to be, getting them on their team would be more challenging than first thought. They'd have to do something to earn their trust."Well, it's just some information we overheard at South Camp, so we're just gonna have to see." Jungkook said, helping Taehyung step up and into the RV before getting him sat down in the back. Jungkook sat beside him so that he could explain their plan of action to their newest squad member as Hoseok took his seat at the front with Yoongi beside him as the navigator. In contrast to this, Leanne was going through all of the storage units, looking for any resources or weapons that could prove useful to them.
"Why were you guys at South Camp?" Taehyung questioned, and Jungkook sighed as he thought back.
"The others went there for supplies, but I've been with South Camp as a squadron leader for over a year. Let's just say we don't plan on going back there any time soon because we had a bit of... trouble. Or at least I did, and they'd probably shoot me if I was to return." Jungkook said, a non-humorous chuckle leaving his lips once he'd explained. Taehyung frowned and turned to the raven-haired."What happened?" He asked in a mix of curiosity and concern, and Jungkook just bit his lip and cast his eyes down to his lap.
"Do you mind if we talked about this another time?" Jungkook said relatively quietly, and Taehyung nodded understandingly with a small, sympathetic smile.
"Oh, of course."
"Thanks."They sat in silence for a little while as the RV travelled across sunlit plains on their way to the city outskirts. Some parts of nature had still succeeded in retaining their beauty at his treacherous time, which was one thing that filled the current survivors with hope. Taehyung noticed a figure move in front of him in his peripheral vision, which snapped him out of his daydream as he turned his head away from the window. His honey-coloured eyes met those of a girl's, who smiled welcomingly at him.
"Taehyung, right?" Leanne asked, receiving a nod from the brown-haired male as she set a first-aid kit on the floor in front of him.
"It's come to my attention that none of us are fully trained in first aid, and I'm the only one who knows anything involved in it, so could you be the first?" She chuckled, and Taehyung smiled and nodded.
"Of course. I did a professional first aid course multiple times with my firefighting career." He said in response, seeing the relief in Leanne's dark eyes."That's great! You can be one of our dedicated medics then. But for the time being, mind if I take a look at your ankle?" She asked, and Taehyung shrugged.
"Sure I guess."
Jungkook moved away from Taehyung to give him some space as his sprained ankle was treated and bandaged, only moving back once Leanne had received her thanks and walked back to the front of the RV."Feel any better?" Jungkook asked thoughtfully, and Taehyung exhaled deeply as he allowed his form to mould into the chair.
"Loads. Seriously, why are you guys so nice? Camp squads are generally so serious and filled with grouchy assholes." Taehyung mumbled, Jungkook laughing a little at his remark."I know, but as a self-formed squad, we're not attached to any camps that we have to serve. I like having the freedom, but we still rely on camps for resources and we've already been kicked out of one." He chuckled, Taehyung humming and rolling his eyes from beside him.
"I guess you've got a point there."
They stayed quiet for a moment, when Taehyung suddenly tapped Jungkook's shoulder, gaining the younger's attention.
"The green haired dude at the front, what's his name?" Taehyung asked."Who, Yoongi?" Jungkook replied, and Taehyung sat back in the chair, seemingly deep in thought.
"Yoongi... Yoongi? Nah, doesn't ring a bell." He mumbled, and Jungkook raised an eyebrow in amusement.
"Why do you ask?" Jungkook queried, noticing that Taehyung's brows had knotted together.
"I thought I recognised him from somewhere, the dog kinda triggered a memory, but it's unclear." Taehyung replied, motioning towards Kwan who was sitting patiently behind Yoongi's chair at the front.
"Tell me if you work it out." Jungkook laughed, standing up and making his way over to the front to see how close they were to entering the city."How's it looking so far, Hobi?" Jungkook asked, the orange-haired man taking a hand off of the steering wheel to give a thumbs up.
"We should be arriving at the city border in half an hour." Yoongi said as he stared down at the map laid across his lap.
"Sounds good. I'm hoping it'll be a get in get out scenario, but let's stay on guard." Jungkook said, earning hums of understanding by the other four people in the van.For once, they were on track.
