Since it was heading into her busiest time Gabby hired another associate so that they wouldn't have to close the shop for lunches. Gabby's phone rang as she was painting Jackson Square on a night that was thick with fog as viewed from Café Du Monde.
"Hey girl hey, what's up?" Gabby asked.
"I was thinking lunch. You need to catch me up on your life. I'll meet you at your place and we can eat back in your courtyard. Enjoy this beautiful fall weather. You know this is the best time of the year in New Orleans when it comes to weather." Nicole said.
"Damn skippy it is. It's a plan. Meet me in my studio when you get here." Gabby said.
After they agreed she went back to painting while singing along to Fall Out Boy.
"So what you been up to girly?" Nicole asked her bestie.
"Not much. I hired a new employee now that we're super busy. That way we don't have to close for lunch, and it ensures I'm never alone in my shop. Mateo is joining us this weekend again at Igor's. He ordered a costume to match mine. I'm going to be a part of my first couple's costume!! I'm so excited. I know like me you aren't giving away your costume, but are you matching with William?" I asked Nicole.
"Duh, of course we're doing the couples costume as well." Nicole said with a roll of her eyes.
"Well, excusez moi. I might have thought y'all were well above that cheese level. But now I see you're down here in the cheese with me." Gabrielle laughed.
"Yep, I'm right there in the thick of it." Nicole said.
"So I have an idea and wanted to see if you were down. Maria said she's down with it. So, you know I'm a black belt in Tae Kwan Do but it's been for-fucking-ever since I participated in Tae Kwan Do. I'm way out of practice. There's a studio in our neighborhood that's teaching self defense for women on Wednesday evenings. Would you want to join Maria and I? I'm thinking being a potential victim of a serial killer is a good reason to get active again in martial arts." I said.
"That's a really good idea. I'm totally down with that. So this Wednesday?" Nicole asked.
"Yes ma'am at 7 pm." I said.
Nicole agreed and the girls continued gossiping until they were done with lunch.
Gabby was up front in her shop covering while one of her 2 employees were out on their lunch since it was too busy for only one associate. She'd just finished making a sale when her cell rang.
"Well hey there Agent Hottie, how may I be of assistance?" I asked upon seeing that it was Mateo.
"Is that going to be your nick for me? I think I'm hurt. You need to come up with your own for me. You can't adopt Nic's. Anyways, I'm sure you're busy as I know I am so this is quick. I just wanted to let you know not to cook because I wanted to return the favor for you tonight. Plus, I have to go teach a couple classes at Quantico Thursday and Friday. But I'll arrive back early Saturday so I won't miss Halloween with you." Mateo said.
"It is super busy in here right now. But yes, that sounds like a plan. You make good breakfasts, so I have faith in your dinners. I'll come up with my own pet name for you so don't you worry Agent Sensitive. Also, I GUESS I can survive two days without you." I said with a laugh.
"That pet name won't work either. I'll see you tonight mi Corazon." Mateo said.
"See you tonight lovebug." I told him as we disconnected.
At 5 pm I asked my employee who has been with me since the beginning if she was ok locking up with the new employee so I could bounce out.
"Girl, I'm good. Go get yo man." Her employee Jessica said.
