It's been 2 weeks since I've gotten to know Deven and Maiya. Tess convinces everyone to go out drinking again tonight, of course, Deven kept trying to say no because he had to watch Maiya but ended up having someone spend the night with Maiya so he could come with us.

"What time?"

"7, no backing out. You already agreed," Deven sighs but nods, I pat his back.

"It'll be fun, you need to loosen up anyways."

"Sorry I don't live the college frat life, I have someone always depending on me," he says still looking down, I wrap my arm around his shoulder.

"Look at the bright side, you don't have to be huddled away in books for one, and two you get more free time than the average college student."

"Yeah right," he scoffs.

"Not kidding. This will be fun man, you won't regret it."

"Fine, whatever you say, Angel."

"Angel? What the hell did I miss?" Blake asks.

"Nickname his sister gives me," I shrug. "Isn't that right Denny?"

He laughs, then removes my arm, I laugh along with him. Everyone else gives us strange looks, but we shake it off.

"Max, a word?" Ronny asks, Tess nods with him.

"What now?" I walk over, they pull me to the other side of the store. I look at Deven, he raises an eyebrow, I mouth "I don't know".

"You two have been way too close recently, are you sure nothing is going on?"

"What? Of course not. I don't swing that way if that's what you're implying?"

"Yes, it's what I'm implying. It's completely fine if something is going on between you two, I mean obviously, but we want you to tell us. Talk to us," Tess looks at me, looking hurt.

"Tessa, Ronny, nothing is going on. I promise you, nothing is going on. He and I just became good friends, what's wrong with that?"

They both sigh at the same time, but nod and I push them off.

"Y'all being protective or something?"

Tess shrugs. "A little bit."

"Why? He's a nice guy?"

"We are more protecting you from yourself man. We don't want to see you like that, not again."

"When I used to drink and smoke my life away because of depression?" I stand up off the couch, they nod slowly. "I'm fine, promise. I won't get like that again," I wave behind me and walk back over to our group.

"What was that about?" Deven asks me, I shrug.

"They are being protective."

He hums, then goes back into his conversation with Eddy and Dan.

---------

"Hey, don't drink too much tonight, okay?" Ronny puts his hand on my shoulder.

"Dude, I'll be fine. I don't know what's gotten into you and Tess recently, but I'm fine. I couldn't be better."

"It's just that, you're acting different," he says as we step into the elevator.

"Ronny, I haven't been in an episode in about a year."

"That doesn't mean anything," he presses level 1.

"Yes it does, it means I'm getting better."

"Getting, not that you are better."

I sigh, then glare at him, not in a rude way but so he knows I'm serious. "I am better, and nothing is going to stop or hurt me again. Okay?"

He nods, then pats my shoulder as the elevator doors open. Ashly is waiting for him, so he wraps his hand around her waist and they walk out. I sigh, push back my hair, then walk out with them. Going to my car. I was nervous. I knew how I get. I promised Ronny I would only have 1 beer and drink water the whole time. But, I knew myself. I wasn't going to do it. I didn't have it in me to hold back.

Someone jumps on my back, pushing me down to the ground. I'm about to elbow them off, but then "hey angel" is whispered in my ear.

"Get off, you douche bag," I turn around, my back on the ground, him hovering above me.

"I don't wanna."

"Too bad," I put my hands on his chest, and put all the pressure I could muster up to push him away. He goes onto his knees, I sit up. "What was the big idea, idiot?"

"The big idea was to get you on the ground, and it worked," He laughs and stood up, pushing his hand out to help me up. I accept it. "And, I'm driving."

"No, you aren't."

"Yes, I am."

"No," I walk out into the road, taking my keys out of my pocket. "You aren't."

I feel a hand grab the back of my leather jacket and pull my back into strong arms. The arms wrap around my waist, my arms still flung forward as I was pulled back. My keys fly forward as I'm pulled back. The moment I'm secure in those arms, a car speeds by, not looking or paying any attention.

"Yes, you are," Deven whispers in my ear.

I gulp, and nod, and feel heat rush to my face.

What the actual fuck?

He lets me out of his hold, he walks to my keys and grabs them. He swings it around his finger with a smirk. I go into autopilot and follow him to his car. He then pushes me to the passenger. I get in, still not saying anything. He goes to the driver and gets on.

"Thanks..." I trial off.

"You could've just gotten yourself killed by not looking."

"I know, I'm sorry. Thank you."

He sighs and nods, a small smile on his lips.

What the hell just happened?
