T W E N T Y F O U R | HOW TO PISS OFF YOUR LEADER
The storm had lightened considerably once Carter and Kara managed to get back down into the Drop ship, thankfully with no other almost-injuries. After Kara's incident the brunette passionatly proclaimed a hatred for the roof and vowed never to step another foot onto it again-- much to Carter's amusement.
The tension between the two had dissolved slightly, as well. Though only slightly. After Kara's fall they both made a point not to talk about Murphy or the situation he found himself in. Carter really didn't want to argue with the girl, especially over Murphy. And although there was still tension, they both decided to push it to the side considering there was bigger things to worry about.
Like Finn, Carter reminded herself for what felt like the umpteenth time. He was her only concern.
"Have you fixed it?" Was Clarke's first words as soon as the pair stumbled through the Drop ship entrance. Clarke took in their soaked and dishevelled appearances with knitted eyebrows but didn't voice her concern.
"Yeah, it's fixed." Carter nodded with a frown and turned her head to look outside the Drop ship. "Don't think the same can be said for the rest of camp though."
"She's right," Kara sighed from just behind Carter. There was an exasperated look on her features, but Carter chalked it down to her 'near-death experience'. "The tents have been ripped from the ground and I'm pretty sure the wall has been blown down too."
"That's our defences gone, we're practically open for a Grounder attack. We may as well just paint a target on our backs..." Carter inwardly cringed as she remembered Finn saying the same thing when they were trying to find Jasper. She shook the thought away and let her gaze trail upwards. "Especially since we've got a freaking Grounder prisoner here," She turned back down to Clarke. "Not the brightest idea we've had."
Clarke paused for a moment as the new information processed in her mind. With a simple shake of the head and a sigh, she addressed the two girls. "We can worry about that later. There's other things we need to work on." Like Finn, almost subconsciously, Carter's attention was suddenly brought to the limp body of her best friend. She swallowed the bile nervously in her throat.
"How, uh, how is he doing?"
"A lot has happened since you left," Clarke sighed tiredly. "He was poisoned."
"What?!" Carter almost screeched, her eyes widened to their maximum capacity and her heart leapt in her throat.
"It's okay," Clarke quickly tried to soothe the blonde by placing her hands on her shoulders. "The Grounder had an antidote, it's all going to be fine. Finn is going to be fine."
Carter slowed her rapid breathing at Clarke's words and her muscles relaxed slightly. He's going to be okay, she chanted, almost like a mantra, in her head, hoping to convince herself. There was no way she was losing him, not ever. He was her big brother (despite actually being younger) she didn't even want to think of him leaving her like that. Just the thought made her heart clench.
"Calm down, she said he'll be fine," Kara's voice had softened as she broke Carter's dark thoughts. "Acting like this isn't gonna help him. Clarke knows what she's talking about. Have hope."
Hope. That one word Carter had so much of when she came down to the ground, the same word that had began to dwindle fast. Carter frowned upon realizing that. She had been the one to tell Finn to have 'hope' yet there she was, staring down at her best friends body with a hopeless expression. Her sudden revelation made her snap out of whatever daze she was in and she cleared her throat somewhat awkwardly before sending Clarke and Kara a small smile.
